How many maps/levels do you think there is?

Post » Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:27 pm

How many maps or levels ( call em what you want ) do you think there will be on the multiplayer/singleplayer.
On the brink official page there's somekind of overview of the ark with all it's parts, but we don't know how many of these are going to be playable or what part of them?
Reason i'm asking is because they've only shown 2 maps right now, container city and the airport. don't you think it's time to show us something more than just 2 maps?

Discuss! :D

most games reveal VERY little about maps til actual release...

Given the smaller size, I'd hope for 14-16 maps.

Preferably though, there will be like 30 zones :D but i'd doubt it

Well remember the Ark is divided into the North dominated by the Security and the South dominated by the Resistance. So equal number of maps for both sides.

This is something that I hope they continue to work on and release as part of DLC possibly. A FPS game gets boring sometimes with the same maps and everyone learns all these different methods to each map. It always feels fresh and nice to not know what they map will be like or where an enemy might pop out at you at any moment from their undiscovered location that even they are so surprised to see you that they forgot to shoot or jumped back through the other way out of fear, lol.

12 Maps should be fine to start with. I hope there are more and I certainly want community made maps.

Map count on release doesn't matter much these days, the promise of DLCs is all I need, what we need to be concerned about is the number of great maps and the feedback we give, Im hoping for 6 great maps 4 good maps and 4 average ones, with another 4 or 6 in a DLC later on.
EDIT: and two maps (res/sec) need to be dedicated to SMART so I can just mess around with lights from time to time.

Ehh, fair enough, I was simply stating the importance has gone down, what recent game hasn't had DLC map addons.

I hope there is actually no need for DLCs. Let alone I can afford them, but then again my download limit restricts me.
I hope they are good enough that they wont need to make a DLC to bring out "better" ones.

I know FPS games that went from 6 to 4000+ maps. Oh yea, it's also made by Splash Damage. An SDK and a creative community will do the job.

ditto...

seems like the price of games has risen to $100+ these days

I avoid DLC usually. Unless I know I'm gonna play the hell out of it... like the upcoming Vietnam expac :D

More maps doesn't equal better maps. A lot of FPS players will gravitate to certain maps. Now with the SMART you will have master each level with each body types. Also when certain spots become well known people adapt and find new ones.

well, you have container city, the airport, that place in the E3 demo, shipyard, that place shown in the newest dev diary thats all dark and grey, and then on brinkthegame.com and click media to the right it mentions an aquarium, so... at least 5...

There are two more gamplay maps that I can think of from the dev diaries but they could just be different places on the same map so we're in the dark :ninja:
The Brink devs also mentioned a vertical level so theres one more!

Well considering the amount of time they are spending on this, I'd hope there will be at least 30 maps. Otherwise this game will be short, and will probably become repetitive. Although the SMART system and other gameplay elements should prevent it from becoming repetitive. :goodjob:

30 maps? wow... you ask a lot dont you, MW2 (horrible game but its kind of become the standard for FPS so we will go with it) has 26 maps, but thats also after 2 map packs, it was released with 16 and some how people are still playing that and dont find it "short" and alot of those maps would be too small for brinks purposes, so i expect around 10, maps are not an easy thing to design, specially when everything on them has to work with SMART, 30 is a bit much, and the thing that worries me is that they wont really be able to add more maps, because its a city floating on water, you cant really explain a sudden new area that somehow drifted in from no where and attached itself, but im also not a Developer at Splash Damage so wtf do i know

Wow, lol that's a huge sentence.

Anyway, it's not impossible to add maps, even on the ark. You can invent underground levels, take the same setting as an existing level but completely different (like another part of the airport F.e.)

I was once like that. I always used the , sign (I forgot the english name)
As for Downloadable maps, I hope they're free, but I'd probably still buy them for extra fun.

lol its a comma, and yeah I have a feeling Brink will be worth the extra money for the content, unlike MW2. I have yet to buy either one of the DLC packs
