How Many Maps?

Post » Sat Nov 20, 2010 7:19 pm

So the Get SMART Videos show a lot of gameplay of just a few maps, and the wiki only shows 3 maps, how many maps do you guys think there is, and do you have proof of that map?

I think there's 8-10 confirmed maps in Brink come launch.

So, this is as good a place as any. What actually are the "What-If" maps all about?

I'm not asking what the maps actually are (i.e. name or pictures), I don't care. I'm wondering how exactly they're 'obtained' or 'unlocked', and thus can be played. If you 'get' one for beating one campaign, does that mean you can't play it in multiplayer unless you've completed that campaign? But... it's all mingleplayer. So... I don't understand how that would work.

Anyone know?

They are alternate endings for each side, which could change the outcome of the War.

Example:

Resistance is tasked with taking out a "chemical-bio weapon" in the heart of the Ark. If they succeed, the entire Ark is destroyed and everyone is forced to leave, changing the ending from "You've Escaped the Ark!" to "You've forced everyone off the Ark.... Way to go, Jack ass."

Not a real scenario, just an example. There are 2 What-if missions, One for resistance and one for Security.

Fair enough, that sounds good. What about them being played as multiplayer (or co-op I suppose) maps: can anyone join a game on them or do you have to have got to it in singleplayer first?

I'm not sure on this info.. I suspect that the What-If maps can only be played in Singleplayer/Co-op. So you can probably invite friends, but you will be limited to playing against bots.

At least we can get more bang for our buck if there were any DLC maps out. Every new map that could be DLC is technically 2 opportunities to try something new.

I'm sure that the what-if missions are playable with everyone being a human... cause if they weren't this would go against everything the "blurring the lines between single and multiplayer" thing they were trying to do.

As he said, there will be 2 What if maps, and 8 Mission maps.

Nobody's confirmed if the 8 maps figure is including the what-ifs or not, as far as I've seen.

I could have missed something, but just in case, anyone got a reference where they make it clear one way or the other?
