how many maps in the game?

Eh.. 8 maps seems light but I'm not bothered by it. Even back in the old 007 4-player days, we never even used more than 6 of them, really. And that was freakin' FUN.

There not going to be HUGE like bc2 maps, brink is more focused on close combat.

there are 8 distinct maps and 2 "what if" levels but each level plays differently for each faction giving 20 levels to play

I just consider it 10 maps then. Which is more than enough to start. Compare to W:ET, only 6 maps at launch, some of them played almost as much as de_dust2.

Maps will have a decent size, but the action is focused around certain areas. Some areas will be locked untill you complete certain objectives, other parts will become useless after completing these same objectives.

well, i guess it all comes down to how the maps work out in terms of the gameplay. 8 maps , although a relatively small number, could work out if each and every map has much uniqueness to it. to be more specific, im not talking about map visuals but the effect of the environment on the objectives. If the maps make it so that I need different strategies for the same objectives on different maps...then Splash Damage, KUDOS TO U..

SD is known for quality over quantity with their maps. In a DM or CTF based games, pumping out a tons of maps is much easier, since they gameplay is much more predictable. Maps in those genres can be symmetrical and and not nearly as dynamic.
Designing maps for team based objective gameplay, is much harder (and different.) This is another reason why TDM wouldn't work out well in Brink - the maps aren't designed for it. They would need to create maps specifically designed for TDM.

Yes, you could just put players in any map, and have them run around killing each other, but then you have a mediocre experience (like Squad DM in BC2)

Quality over quantity every time for me. More maps doesn't equal to good maps. People after awhile just play their favorite maps anyway.

Indeed. I doubt that I'll be purposefully avoiding any specific maps in Brink like I do in my current shooters. And 10 is indeed plenty to start with, especially considering that they will play differently depending on which faction you play as. I've noticed in a lot of other games how different levels look when you go through them backwards, and I'm sure that will hold true in Brink as well. Indeed.

indeed, a few SD maps could keep people entetained for a few years.

and why would you think there would be 2 maps? thats just silly, who would buy a game with 2 maps! :P

League of Legends currently only has 2 maps, sure one of em has 3 flavors depending on the time of year.... but still, I've spent more time playing that game than just about any non-mmo I've ever had.

Also a search button. I know its a hassle.

Forums Searches are just the Little Sisters of Big Daddy Google.

Container City appears to be about the size of three small-to-medium sized Counterstrike Maps.

Quality > Quantity

There will "only" be 8 maps. And I will go ahead and assume that they will all be memorable. In W:ET, I didn't really dread any map, compared to the FPSs I play now, which have a fair share of maps I just plain don't like.

League of legends map are more or less symmetrical, which won't be the case in Brink.

WRONG
You're doing it.

Properly done it would be something like: In Sowjet Russia Adam harvests Little Sisters.
(Because as a matter of fact, Little Sisters do harvest you for your Adam.)
