How many more skills will be lost in TES VI?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 4:10 pm

Pretty simple question. We had more skills in Daggerfall than we did in Morrowind, we had more skills in Morrowind than we did in Oblivion, and we had more skills in Oblivion than we do in Skyrim. What's next? 12-15 skills in TES VI?

Discuss!

Well actually i have the feeling, that Skyrim is also a lot shorter then Oblivion. So i think they fit the Skills to the lenght of the game. Why would you need +20 Skills if the game is too short to actually skill something of these.

I think they're at a point where they can't really argue removing any more skills. But if you want to be cynical, we will have one, just Skill, which is a reflection of how badass our character is.

I'd say none get removed.

Wait...THIS GAME??? Far too short? Are we talking about the same game here? I am near to 100 hours and not even level 40 yet...

I think there were too many in Morrowind, not enough in Skyrim, but Oblivion had the right amount.
Though the way they are organised in Skyrim is way better than previous.

Dunno. Are there any more redundant skills? You might argue that lockpicking & pickpocketing are candidates for merging into one skill, I'd be OK with that.

Shouldn't this be in TES General?

The next game will be on the next generation consoles though, so I assume the game as a whole will be a lot bigger than Skyrim was, and they will get the players a lot more to do and will actually have more skills in.

Several, it's pretty much a guarantee.
I'm sorry but people can tag a "this is a perfectly valid reason for removing X" onto anything. The fact is if we can say, accurately, that the next game WILL remove at least two or three more skills and features then it really is trimming. We don't even need to know of a reason, we just know it'll be done.
Waiting for the mods to do the right thing and put all this stuff back in, like it should have been to begin with.

More =/= Better

I think that *most* of the streamlining has been good. Acrobatics and Athletics really weren't needed.

It will be a FPS with no skills. You'll just find health and armor packs and ammo for your bow.

I can literally write a book about what's not needed in this series. But such a list would contradict the attraction of the series. For example, Marriage is not needed, clutter isn't needed, houses aren't needed, crafting isn't needed, etc..

While I do enjoy this game, the amount of dumbing it down for 12 year olds to play it on the XBox is really annoying. (Loss of attributes, loss of real classes, weapons never degrade, etc...) Hope the mods will fix it.

But I understand $ makes things like this happen. :/

I don't think any will be removed... maybe renamed but not removed. I don't think there will be less skills at least.

This is also the wrong section :ninja:

Some could argue that pickpocketing and lockpicking could be merged into a single Thieving skill, which to be honest, I'd be fine with. Honestly, if they continue with the perks system I could see them merging two-handed and one-handed. I mean hey, a sword is a sword no matter how you swing it, all you really need now are perks to distinguish what you use.

Right because people on Xbox can't handle anything more complicated :whistling:

I agree. Nothing is "needed", but these games are about playing how you want and having a great deal of optional features to partake in. I hope that we get more skills in the next TES game, instead of the 12 or 15 we will likely get.

Heck, if current trends continue we will have 3 skills (stealth magic, combat) in TES IX.

My problem is I hated athletics and acrobatics in obilivion. I hated how fast auto ran became and how high I could jump. The thing I hated most was I had no control of it. If I didn't want inflated run speed I couldn't stop itt from happening.

Adding sprint and being controlled with stamina is much better for me.
