How many skills will you concentrate on?

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2011 6:51 am

So in for example FO and NV it was quite easy to split your skills too much and become decent in lots of things but not really good at anything. So How many skills are you going to concentrate on and how many are too much? (what you think)

I am talking about increasing too many skills and then level up too fast and not be good enough in anything to actually have an advantage later on in the game when mobs/locks/crafting is going to be too high lvl. I have not played other ES games so I dont really know what the standards are in those games :)

Whatever feels natural as I play the character. Archery definitely, Lockpicking, Sneaking, and Pickpocketing too. I might dabble in Alchemy for poisons if the mood strikes me.

It was quite easy in previous games to focus on seven, so I don't see why I couldn't focus on seven in this one, too:

To be conservative, I'll only choose five: so, one handed, destruction, restoration, smithing, block (speechcraft and light armor if seven seems viable when I begin playing)

I fully plan on maxing every skill, don't know if that means i'll get enough levels to get all the perks but it's just the kind of obsessive person i am.

Usually my good old routine is to watch my longsword skill; my heavy armor; my destruction and restoration skills.

I'll just do seven like oblivion. not too many or too much and works out perfect for me

-Destruction
-Blade
-Illusion
-Conjuration
-Sneak
-Alteration
-Blacksmithing

ps: i know blacksmithing makes no sense, but I find crafting to be SO cool! :)

well... maybe I dont understand this right. Most of you wrote like 4 skills.... but the way we increase our skills in Skyrim is by using them, so are you guys only going to use those 4 skills?

I mean this is an example of my "dream character":

I want to be an assasin kind of character.

In fights I am going to sneak, open with a bow to get the crits, then when I am noticed I want to switch to either DW daggers (that what I have heard svck if already noticed since you cant block) or one-handed sword + shield. If I get to close combat with a meele character I am going to need to block with the shield and I am going to (probably) take a few hits on my light armour. Skills that increase in combat are in this case going to be: One-handed, sneaking, Bow, Block, Light armour (5 skills)

Out of combat I want to:

Use alchemy to make potions and poisons (I will need to heal in some way), sneak around and lock-pick/break into places and smooth talk my way out of situations (cause thats the kind of guy my assasin is in public). Skills that increase: Alchemy, Lock-pick, Speach (3 skills)

Total 8 skills. With these skills I can get around the world of skyrim and handle all the situations I want to handle. Ofcourse some of them are going to be more of a minor skill, for example light armour (I dont want to get hit too much) and Speach (I would rather not find myself in these kind of situations in the first place), but they ARE going to increase! So I hope this aint too many because it would svck so much if all you could do was 4 different things, you get what I mean :P

Of course not! I simply like classifying my character as a spellsword/nightblade and these are my main skills. but i most certainly will use a healing spell, pick locks, (when i don't have an alteration spell for that) and pick pockets. i'm just sort of nit picky and ocd-ish about classifying lol. if ya know what i mean :hubbahubba:

It's going to be hard for me to not use the tools at my disposal:

One Hand
Archery
Light Armor
Sneak
Lockpicking
Speechcraft
Alchemy

And whichever spells lend themselves to my playstyle.

1h
light armor
alchemist
blacksmith
archery
sneak
enchanting
block
lockpicking
pickpocket

No magic, and once I max light armor, I'll probably do heavy armor. Of the 1H branches, I'll go dagger 1st (if there is a dagger branch) and probably sword to kill those pesky necromancers with little armor. If I'm having more trouble, I'll do blunt instead of sword.

Speach? Meh, maybe by accident.

Boy that's 10 or 12...I'll be busy I guess.

Yes well I'll be making 3 different characters with different roles. My first one is going to be the assasin, my second is going to be an all out mage and my third is going to be a knight. So at one point or the other I will be trying out all skills :P

One handed
Block
Heavy Armor
Smithing
Restoration
Destruction
Speech

More than likely these will be the ones I will concentrate on, but I will use some of the other skills too, except for lockpicking and probably sneak.

I'll use many but I will only go a little into some perk trees. The skills that I'll use for sure, however, will be destruction, conjuration, alchemy, one handed, archery, and sneak. I may go into enchanting and/or alteration depending on what spells are available from those skills.

My first character Nightblade, second will be a pure mage, third will be a mage with fighting abilities. Then I will make a Spellsword, then I will make an assassin build and I plan to make an Imperial be an excellent talker such as they are. I will be them all. :celebration:
