how many standart NCR trooper would it take...

Post » Mon Sep 07, 2009 4:32 pm

to kill ALL the deathclaws in Quarry Junction?

Standard NCR trooper = service rifle, NCR armor, trooper helmet, combat knife

EDIT: sorry for the mistake in the title, it's ''standard'' not ''standart''

I don't think there are enough NCR troopers in the whole Mojave to manage it. You'd probably need at least twenty troopers per deathclaw, and probably much more than that.

Roughly 3 or 4 per standard deathclaw, maybe 5 or 6 for the alphas,
I lured a deathclaw and a young deathclaw up to the 3 khans at the back of the junction and they mullered the deathclaws,
I've had the khans and the NCR fight each other and the NCR anihalated the khans...

Rather than a completely nonsense answer...

If they are issued with armor piercing ammunition and fire once per second, a squad of 8 NCR troopers with service rifles would serve up 160 damage per second. Which is enough to kill a deathclaw in two volleys, even with a few misses. It's not unreasonable to expect that they can get off 6 volleys before the deathclaws close the distance, so, a squad of 8 NCR troopers should be able to kill about 3 deathclaws. Provided their commanding officer isn't completely clueless and they make good use of terrain, one platoon of NCR troopers (50ish personnel) should be able to wipe them out. Troop requirements go down quite a bit if you attach some sappers to the mission, since deathclaws do not understand or avoid landmines.

On another note, apparently deathclaws are intimidated or discouraged by loud noises. They only moved into the quarry after blasting stopped. Issuing your troopers with grenades might drive the deathclaws off without even needing to directly engage them. (Though for obvious reasons, killing them is a desirable outcome)

Thank you for a good answer and not some rubbish. I would agree thats how many it would take but i would dim it down to 7 man squad and a platton of 45. They arent that bad...

Too many, it would require much less Talon Company Mercs and they could get it done faster.

That's an excellent answer, but are there any instances of NCR troopers being issued with AP rounds in the game? Without them, all the Service Rifles in the world aren't going to dent a deathclaw's hide.

Too many the NCR could....or would give

The NCR armor is based off of the UK's armor in WW1, probably withstand bullets and minor swords, but a deathclaw.....

Do they have AP rounds? If so I'd say 25 to the whole Quarry if not the 40 or 50

Nope never heard of 'em are those the new things kids are riding around in nowa days?

Real question would be how many Legion would it take to clear out Quarry Junction what with most of them using nothing but machete and throwing spears. Actually a modder should probably make a video of these ideas could be pretty entertaining to watch.

It would take 10 NCR Troopers to kill one Deathclaw.
It would take 1 Level 35 Courier to kill one Deathclaw.
