How Many Supply Lines can a Settlement Support?

Post » Sat Dec 12, 2015 7:11 am

I ask, because I have 11 supply lines leaving/coming from/to Starlight Drive-In, but I incorrectly had the fort go to Sanctuary (don't ask me why I did that, because I don't know). I tried to reassign the settler doing that route, and the game would show me any other settlement to reassign him to, OTHER than Starlight. I intercepted him at the Fort, went into build mode, assign yo supply line, and Starlight was not listed. So I intercepted him at Sanctuary instead and it was exactly the same thing.

Is 11 the cap (seems like a weird number)?

Or is this a bug?

They can't all connect to every settlement. Sometimes the supply line is not able to work so you have to route it through another settlement first

That's a wonky way to do it... why not just connect them all as 1 line instead of one settlement going everywhere like a web?

Because I don't have to think about geography or look at a map if I designate one settlement as my hub and just set up a single provisioner at each settlement to go there.

IIRC, a settlement cannot have more than 10+charisma person. Maybe it's because it's already at the limit? Try popping some mentats, or move a settlers somewhere else, and see if you can set the supply line.

Thats the opposite of what OP is doing

Edit: doesn't matter either way. They all connect and I get my junk just fine.

Because of the way

Because of the way supply works.

There are materials/junk and then there's your equipment.

materials/junk will travel along any connected line of supply routes (as you've indicated), but equipment does not. So my fort only shows the equipment at the fort, it doesn't show the equipment at Starlight (fort -> sanctuary - starlight is the connection I have), while every other settlements shows the equipment and materials of starlight. i.e. the direct connection seems to show more availability of items in the workshop.

Unless I am completely an dutterly on crack and I am mis reading this. Which is very possible. But certainly the Fort has it's own equipment in the workshop and it's a different equipment list than Starlight.

ahhhh ... so the settlers sent FROM another settlement to work between settlements are counting towards starlight's limit?

Not 100% sure. I've read you need 1 'slot' to set the supply line, then it isn't necessary anymore. The provisioner will only count toward the population while he's there. I have yet to test if it's true to be honest ;) I cannot try it right now but the guy said the limit is based on current charisma, so a mentats or +charisma clothes should do the trick temporarily.

I don't think they do though, the settler limit stays the same at the one you take it from and the same at the one you put it towards. The settler is still based out of the original settlement, I'm pretty sure it doesn't count towards the new settlement as well. Not positive though

I was using Starlight as a hub, too, but now I don't have anyone to tend crops, stores or defenses.

Can I cancel or redirect supply lines?

Those of you using Starlight as a hub shouldn't be running out of settlers, as long as you designate someone from other settlements to GO to Starlight rather than the other way around. For example I have Sanctuary as my home base and I have evacuated everyone except for the npcs you meet at the start (Mama Murphy, Doc Sturges, and the couple), it's basically a ghost town, but I have a bunch of other settlements running supply lines there. All my settlers are doing crop work or scavenging.

You have to intercept the settler running that supply route and reassign them to another [farming] duty.
