How many times have you played the MQ?

Post » Sun Sep 15, 2013 9:24 am

Just checking out the Iverstead topic... it seems people actually play the MQ multiple times. This is something I've not done in any TES... the last time I saw Mankars Paradise was a good 5 years ago. I played the MQ when Skyrim first came out and havent even considered doing it since. But the Iverstead topic has got me thinking of it.

Well, there's starting the main quest, progressing the main quest, and finishing the main quest.

Most of my characters start it, completing Dragon Rising, because I like having dragons in my game. And no dragies, no shouties. Also, sometimes I like to live in Breezehome.

Some of my characters play part of the main quest after DR. A significant number of them get to the part where you meet a certain woman, then tell that certain woman fugettaboutit, and that's that. Some go further, some don't even make it that far.

I've finished the MQ twice, I think. Out of probably around 30 (I don't keep track, that's a guess) characters, I only recall two that finished it.

I start it to collect dragon parts, but rarely finish it. It's easily one of the most underwhelming MQ's of all the RPG's I've played.

I have never completed the main quest line for any of the Elder Scrolls games, not even once. Not because I don't like them, I do like them, but I've found that if I complete the main quest for these sort of games I then lose all motivation to continue with that character. Because everything afterward feels anticlimactic, there is nothing to build up to. I like to keep it looming in the future while I do everything else there is to do.

Twice. Both times played Altmer character, both times lost 100% interest in those characters after finishing the MQ.

The dream land episode is just too immersion breaking for non-Nord characters.

About 15 out of 25 characters have started MQ about 2 have finished, most get past Dragon Rising and that is as far as they go. 2 have met the Greybeards and get the locations of word walls from them. I like Dragons, what can I say.

I get started on the MQ, then I'll get distracted by all the miscellaneous stuff in game, get infected by a case of "alt-itis", make an alt, and start all over again lol.

So Ive actually finished the MQ only once. Been that way with all my TES games.

Ive finishes the quest once. Then started my second character after I lost my first, and since have made it to the negotiation part of the main quest. This was over 100 hours ago.

I have six characters, one of which I retired and deleted out of frustration because he kept getting killed in Apocrypha.

Three started and completed the MQ, though I only associate one with it.

One did it partway because I intended for him to rebuild the Blades and kill the Thalmor (never done; he's the one I deleted).

One did it right up to killing the first dragon, then left it rotting on the plain (i.e. didn't approach close enough to soak up its soul).

And one didn't do it at all.

I don't think I've actually completed it over 5 times, it's just so boring.

Iv'e done it once. But can't bring myself to do it with subsequent characters, as the random dragons are tiresome & the constant number of trips back & forth to high hrothgar are like nails down a chalk board.

I think I have finished it a total of 10 or so times. But only if it seemed to suite the RP of the character I am playing at the time.

Twice. Not the sort of quest I like to repeat regularly. (Thought it could be worse. Apocrypha is awful. And it's good the first time through.)

37 characters total

Of that, 12 times the MQ has been started

Of that, 5 times I have seen the Graybeards

Of that, 1 time has seen Parth

Of that, zero times has the MQ seen 100%

Once. I play all of them once. I've never played any of the Elder Scrolls main quests a second time.

Bought on 11/11/11, have put maybe 400 hours in on four or five characters, haven't made it past the Horn of Jürgen Windcaller. Hope to actually finish the main quest in the next year or so, though.
