How many of you are buyingnot buying the game?

Post » Thu Feb 06, 2014 5:55 am

So when I heard that Zenimax Online had planned to make the Imperial race exclusive, I was kind of pissed.

I mean this is a roleplaying game, and as far as roleplaying is concerned this might as well be a pay-to-win deal. The only thing that could convince me to buy the game now is if they integrated imperials to the standard edition, but obviously that won't happen. I don't want to support this kind of marketing.

So where do you stand?

Not buying. Its crippling expensive. I have played Tes for years and this type of marketing is new to me. Im disappointed, and the Imperial "privileged" package was the final straw. Im not against MMORG but I do think a high subscription and a high start cost cannot be justified on the consumer. Single one time payment, or a low monthly subscription and no base cost.

Bought the Imperial Edition, this type of deal is nothing new to MMOGs.

Single one time fee? How do you expect all the servers to stay maintained? Is a company supposed sit there and watch all of its profits get soaked up day after day? Ever want new content? Bug fixes?

Already bought the imperial edition, and I knew. I don't see that option?

Wow, what a poll. You FORGOT to put: "bought the Imperial Edition when I knew". You're leaving out all the people who bought the game because of the Imperial..!! i.e. me.

Don't know.

If I buy it will be one of the imperial edition.

Not sure yet, not overly happy about this and intent to buy.

It is a great game but to pay both the starting price and a subscription after, it have to be worth it.

Most easy for them to fix is the any race in any alliance bonus for preorders. That kills half the game immersion.

Really? Adds immersion to mine. I guess that's why immersion is such a [censored] word?

How come it adds "immersion" to you?

If I play in the AD I want to bash the [censored] out of orcs, nords, argonians and all of them not fight with them. Why else are we fighting?

if you have tracked the game from their site, they have not marketed imperial race at all.

its 3 per side and 3 factions.

imperial race is CE Edition exclusive and means that ESO does something no other MMO has done to date! ESO gives substance in their CE edition.

when you think about this for a while, you understand that this is amazingly good thing.

Because, immersion, god help us, is not the end all to any argument. There are people here that still perma death for immersion, PvP looting for immersion, No quest markers, and cryptic quest text. And you know what? Their immersion is on the same level as ours, it might as well be called opinion.

Every war has some defectors who go over to the other side. During the cowboy V indian wars, you'd have apache scouts etc. Vietnam war? same..and most other wars in history. It's when you get more of these "defectors" then the actual natives that it becomes silly. Hopefully this wont be the case and only a few choose a "traitorous" route.

I was wondering about how you looked about the any race in any alliance bonus.

Not how you would describe the word immersion in the lexicon ^^

I was gonna buy it until they announced cash shop 2 months before game going live with Imperial edition (wouldnt bother me if it was F2P game). On top of that NDA still is active in less then 2 months from release, what a joke.

Probably wont be buying it.

True, what I am worried about also.

Way I see it every alliance should have their upside and downside. In mmorpgs usually you try to maximize your character so you get as powerful as possible and thus if the altmer is the best dmg magician and you want to play in EP hence you will be that there, is how I think it can go.

Actually I don't think it's all that easy for them now that they've started selling the game with that bonus. Take it away and all of a sudden they've annoyed their paying customers.

I probably won't be buying, simply for the fact that this game is beginning to reek of free2play-ness. It's clear that Zenimax has plans to monetize this game very heavily, far beyond the initial purchase price and standard monthly subscription. People will argue and claim that this isn't the case...and that ESO is different...etc... but I've seen this happen far too many times. I know exactly how this is going to end.

It's not even an issue of money for me. It's an issue of me, as a consumer, deciding how I'm willing to be treated. I routinely buy 200 dollar collector's editions, but for ESO... I'm probably going to take a pass until I see some more respect from Zenimax.

After much thought, I have decided to not buy the game at all.

Over time and as new details are announced, this game just gets less and less enticing to me.

And I really do have the issue of any race in any alliance. Now this may seem trivial to some, but IMO, this destroys an integral part of the story. I... it just doesn't appeal to me like it did a couple months ago.

*btw, that's not my only reason, simply one of the more prevalent ones at the moment.*

Probably not buying. Maybe I'll get it at some point, but I doubt I'll pre-order. It's a bit steep, and I'd rather not buy it and risk it being a flop. Also not going to hide the fact that I'm not a big fan of this whole exclusive race business either.

I bought the standard edition, anyone who bought imperial edition is saying that no matter what they will just keep on feeding more and more money, no matter how badly they are being cheated.

But a ton of respect towards those who did not buy the game at all, that is a even better choice than mine. I am weaker than you and still feed some money to the greedy men in suits :P

I hear where you're coming from.

I figure that I'll be perfectly happy with LOTRO and the World of Darkness MMO once more details emerge on it. I'm just pretty disenchanted with TESO right now, so I cancelled my pre-order. I may pick it up in a year or so, but then again I might not.

We'll see.
