How many of you are going to RP?

Post » Sun Sep 25, 2011 6:30 am

What I really like about roleplaying is the fact that you can turn the world into anything you can conceptualize from it and turn into your own, you make up character dialogue, you make friends and enemies based upon simply what you imagine to happen, and yet because you're playing in an engine with rules and randomness, there's still that element of surprise when your friend vanishes for a week to head to Cheydinhal, or when a person dies in a quest that you're doing that you were close to. And don't even get me started on betrayal.

Anywho, I've just always loved it a lot, so I'm wondering how many other people are going to, and what sort of things are you planning on doing, if you do? :)

I know that a thread like this was probably made before, but I couldn't find one and I don't want to necro-post.

Also, on a related note, are you going to try to find a way to get some characters from the past games into Skyrim, and if so, how are you going about that? Vampirism? Lycanthropy? Stayed alive in the Shivering Isles? Restoration Magic Extraordinaire? Anything at all, I'm curious. :)

How on Earth can you play an Elder Scrolls game and not RP in some way shape or form? I don't even think that's possible.

Indeed if you don't plan on it don't buy this game!

You'd be surprised.

Most of the people in my school just talked about getting armor and more weapons, leveling up, and going around killing people. When I talked about RP they were like "wut?".

Started RPing in Oblivion, now I'm replaying Morrowind with the same mind state. Definitely going to do it in Skyrim.

I always do. Though sometimes, I do forget which character style I am trying out. I ended up keeping a little notepad with my Oblivion game to keep a record of my ideas around the character.

I dont RP in the sense of making a story for my guy or anything like that.

I do like playing my characters in different/certain ways though (I enjoy playing as sneaky thiefs and assassins the most) and just enjoy the world and everything in it, does this count as RP?

:ahhh: I can't reply to all of these with how fast they're coming in!

Okay, so it's really great that you're all going to. :D I mean that legitimately and if I could multiquote each of you with how fast they're coming in I would! :)

Glad to know I'm not alone in this.

Edit: And to those of you who aren't going to, there's nothing wrong with that! I'd suggest you do, but it's your choice and it's fine if you want to play it like that. :)

For my Orcish barbarian it will probably go:
"Justice for little people" quests done pro-bono
Quests for people trying to make money, get maximum payment and double-cross if possible
Look for opportunities for glory
Don't steal from peasants
Steal as much as possible from nobles
Never complain in dialog responses
Don't waste money on an expensive house (a small mountain shack is OK)
Try to make own equipment
Enjoy hunting
Etc.

I will RP but i don't think it's easy not RP in an TES game. You play a character that you only know he is a dragonborn no story or anything and then they give you the freedom to go,do and be whatever you want, the game basically ask you to RP that's one of the reasons that i love :tes: You really can't enjoy 100% the game if you don't RP even a little.

I think that's true, but everybody's different. Some people don't like stuff like RPing.

I'm a huge RPer. My first character will be an Imperial Ranger who is also a revolutionary. It's gonna be lots of fun

gerneraly i roleplay myself, at least the first playthrough, in oblivion i was a stealth/mage , in fact i have NEVER been a warrior in oblivion. battlemage is the closest and i always end up using illusion to go invisible or something. in fallout3/nv i played as myself the first time through (small arms/speech/ a good guy but not afriad to put a price on a job, i WONT do a bunch of pro bono stuff)

I'll be RPing, I like getting to mould my own story and getting to choose how I will do everything. I usually RP as a peasant turned militia.

I'll do what i always do in TES games - become the boss of every guild (assuming its possible), do every side quest I can, then think about doing the main quest (but stop if it svcks like in OB).

Well, I'll RP a little bit, but that small piece of RP will be in the form of my Dunmer going on a genocidal campaign of revenge against all Argonians in Skyrim xD

If you don't rp, what the hell is the point of all the alcohol in the game? Your characters don't really go to the tavern to look for work, do they?
