1570+ hrs and still haven′t handed in the amulet to Jauffre. It′s hidden in my character′s house in Bruma. He sees it like this, if he just doesn′t do anything then nothing bad will ever happen. If he were to start to "save the world", then all hell would brake loose!

So, easy choice, huh?

i never put much effort into MQ always found the guilds and side quests and shivering isles to be much more fun. Of those I only ever completed the thieves guild. I'm going to make a real effort to do the MQ in skyrim at least once.

I've played several characters, and they either do it all early and get the gates closed and done with, or drop off the Amulet of Kings and leave the rest alone. So the MQ doesn't account for much playing time for any of them, either because they rush through doing nothing else until the gates are closed again, or because they don't get started.

My 360 character finished the main quest along with every side quest and freeform quest in Cyrodiil and Shivering Isles. My PC character on the other hand has never even touched the main quest. I HATE with a passion how the oblivion gates ruin a beautiful landscape. I'll play the main quest for Skyrim on my 360 and then go over to the PC and play with mods and probably not touch the main quest.

Currently, The Bastard Man has only done up to taking martin to cloud ruler temple. Oblivion Gates are pretty good places to level, and i intend to max out this time.

Wow, that's impressive. I've had several charcters just pocket the Amulet, but not for 1,570+ hours.

My first character finished the MQ after doing a lot of other stuff. My other characters can't be bothered to do the MQ so I guess once was enough. haha.

Yeah, I can′t believe it either :D

But then again, he′s my only character and I started him early 2007. Oh, and did I mention I got very addicted to this game?

My very first game of Oblivion, 70+ hours in, I've done dozens of side missions, explored every city, nearly done the Mages Guild questline and have done maybe two missions of the main story.

<_< Short of finding Baurus in the Imperial City and entering the Arena, I've completed every quest except for "Mazoga the Orc", "The Order of the Virtuous Blood", "An Unexpected Voyage", "Umbacano the Collector", and everything related to the Shivering Isles. I haven't even activated "Knights of the Nine" in the mods list yet. <_<

I've only fully completed it once out of all the play-throughs I've done. I refuse to have to close all the oblivion gates again. It's just so tedious.

I don't know why I do it, but in almost every TES game I played, I never completed the main quest and I play this games all the time. I think this is the beauty of TES games, you may completely ignore the main quest and still have fun and tons of things to do.

I think i did the MQ just to get it over with. The MQ was a let down for me. The guilds were fun for me. My only gripe was the auto advancement. But other than that the guilds still make me play oblivion. I am playing skyrim now and i feel the MQ will be good.

I've played hundreds of hours of Oblivion, and done all guilds at least once (some of them two or three times), but I've only done the main quest twice. The last time I did it was only to prepare my character for Restore Sancre Tor.

I'd say that, in general, if you want a "sandbox experience" for role playing, you don't want to do the Main Quest in any TES game, because advancing in the main quest always messes up the game world.

I've completed it a couple of times, but it usually remains one of the last string of quests that I do for each play through.

For some reason I always feel obliged to complete the Main Quest with every character I make.

Sure it loses its impact on the 5th or so play-through but if I ignore it I feel like my character is ignoring their destiny and will disappoint Captain Pic... I mean the Emperor. He was so nice to me in the dungeon, I couldn't bear to let him down.

One of my recent female characters didn't find him so nice. First of all, she was creeped out when he leered at her and said "you are the one from my dreams," as if she hadn't heard that line before... Then there was the "what's your sign, baby?" business -- another old line. These old Emperors don't get out much, do they?

And then, later in the dungeons, the ungrateful old coot took it upon himself to attack her with his sword -- some misunderstanding over a misplaced fireball spell, no doubt... It took a great deal of protesting, dodging, blocking, and yielding to get that situation under control.

The jewelry ploy was just the last straw. If the assassin hadn't done the old lecher in, she might have done it herself...

Someone gave me an Xbox 360 for free a couple of months back, so looking for an rpg I bought Oblivion GOTY. I'm on a short lay-off from work so have been putting in some game time. I have completed the main quest and have the last 3 quests from the thieves guild and 7 of the Shivering Isle left, have played 155 hours and still a lot to explore. It's kind of been a pre-training for how I want to play Skyrim. I have Morrowind but had to stop one winter lay-off since it effected my equilibrium and would get dizzy spells for about a month.

I'm in the same boat but I'm going to finish the main questline before I start playing Skyrim.
