i love my gf and all but ive gotten very good over the years of being able to simultaneously tune her out but retain enough of the conversations or "talks" to be able to get the gist of it and keep out of harms way. its like im trying to fool the KGB or something.

When given chargen choice I usually wind up putting myself into the game or some "alter ego", so being a guy, I usually play males. I do play females once in a while though, just for something different and I'll admit, for some "aesthetic" reasons as well.

I am a guy, and I play as both genders.

My Two Characters
-male Altmer mage
-female Dunmer assassin

I seem to be playing as the female assassin a lot more lately.

<--- My forum avatar is one of the few male characters I've made. That screenshot is as far as he ever got - actually, I didn't save a save at that point, so the most recent save is the one that the game makes right before you exit the Vault in Fallout 3. For me, it just seems weird playing the same gender as myself, when I have a choice.

I have pages and pages of female TES IV character screenshots on my website, but I'd be hard-pressed to find a male, and even harder pressed to find a male that wasn't an NPC. Same for my Fallout 3 screenshots - in fact, the only reason I use that one as my forum avatar is because I think it bears a strong resemblance to me, and my friends agree.

I always play a male character. I think I've only made one or two female characters in any game I've played over the years.

Yes, I too find it much easier to make a replica of myself in Fallout than in Oblivion. Perhaps I never "play as myself" because my face simply can't be rendered in Oblivion's facegen.

I like the idea of RP, but I don't actually project much of myself into the character (exception noted in a few lines). I'm more like a writer of story, than being myself in the game. I create limitation and traits for the character, that's a big part of the fun for me.

Because I don't have any issues with distance based on race or six - I will play a variety of creatures. Although I admit I've never had a Dunmer or a Bosmer. More interested in Bosmer. And I feel cooler when I play as a beast race. I can't deny it! The face is I play as both male and female characters. I tend to be male dominant because often feel like that's a story I want to tell myself.

With one exception, only recently started: I gave one of my characters my own name. Or rather a Kahjit, version of my name - Mar'iq. I remember because the character had my name it was going to be male.

I don't think I've ever played as a female in any RPG that gave the option lol.

Just tried thinking about making a female character and it didn't feel right... I'll stick with dudes

For some reason I just dont find it realistic for a woman to save the world from a demon invasion. It just doesnt work for me.

I always play as a woman. Don't really know why, but I've always found female characters more interesting and engaging then male ones. Male most male characters either have to be unrealistically manly or some throw away coward in modern media, its rare to find a well written middle ground, especially in fantasy. In comparison, woman can fit any role, from bad ass warrior, shrinking violet, despicable villain, etc. I'm playing as a White Tabaxi Mystic in Oblivion right now. I tried to start a male dunmer, but the idealistic Cyridil didn't really fit well with the character I wanted to play with (read: bad ass).

I make female characters for eye candy purposes only and have a male character to be a representation of myself on the side. I still play all characters seriously the female ones just give me something extra to look at.
A pretty woman's face is a nice thing to see from time to time, yes it's a game but the females sometimes could have been done better on some occasions. No I don't think even old women should be hot its just that even with the young ones there should be a pretty one here and there and its not the case usually there are only average ones everywhere.

In TES, i play as males, dont know why, but playing female in TES, just doesn't feel right for me (maybe its because I usually play orcs and orc females are ugly). In other games, like WoW, L2, DA:O and stuff like that it, depends on the race I'm playing: if its an orc, dwarf, troll or something simillar - I'm always a male; and if its elf, human (which rarely happens), or other races - I'm always a female (elf males usually looks gay).
So yeah, it basically depends on how my character looks like in both genders, and usually female looks better, so I'm usually playing a female.

I'm male, but I mostly play female characters... I like my female characters so be pretty and feminine in appearance, but I don't dress them up with lore unfriendly clothing and armor just to have som eye-candy doll to look at while questing. I don't like to mess with lore, and except for adding new races I use gear that would belong in the game world... so you could say that my ideal character is beatiful females in lore friendly gear.
I do also play male characters from time to time, but it's not very common. My male characters are generally supposed to look nice, and not ugly. I don't like playing ugly characters. The males should look handsome, but also be manly. I don't want some feminine male character, because I feel the male character somehow represents me... and very feminine males somehow disgust me. :P

I guess I play a lot of female characters because they are nice to look at, and it's different from playing a male (like my self). It feels kinda weird to say that "I" did something in-game, when playing a female character. I guess that's the negative thing about playing a female. :)

In Oblivion I've had 4 "main" characters, where 3 out of 4 were female. The male is the one I've had most progress with though, but he was on vanilla oblivion and I've not played him for years now i think.
Except for this, almost all my main characters in RPG games have been women, the few men I've created are usually abandoned after a few hours.

My main character now in Oblivion is a female Moonshadow Elf, who is basically a mix between combat and stealth, but also with some magic skills applied for healing purposes. :)

Mainly females because I am one, only made a guy once or twice just to mess around. I may try a serious play through with a male sometime though.

What annoys me is when guys justify it as "I don't want to stare at some guy's butt for hours." Well, I got a few objections
1) If a guy really doesn't want to stare at their male character's butt for hours, why are they looking at it in the first place? You ask me, they don't want to really admit they're may actually like guys.
2) If I wanted to stare at a women's butt and boobs for an extended period of time, I'd go to other mediums than a game.

Haha yeah some homophobic dude at work pulled that one on me....

I pretty much just said "Um..it's supposed to be a first person game anyway..."

Also, the female variations of characters in these games seem more diplomatic and caster centric whereas the males are more combat oriented for most races. I prefer combat with a little magic thrown in for support for most of my characters, so I go with Male for that reason - usually one of the combat heavy races such as Redguard or Orc.

I play male characters only. Never will I play a female!

Probably has something to do with the bug I have when I try to play a female :P

But seriously. I don't get it. If you don't wanna look at a mans butt, what are you doing in third person in a predominantley first person game? Personally, I have no problem with playing a female, and I have tried, but as I said, my bug that I can't be bothered to fix stops me from doing so.

Questions in the title, really. When I first started playing the TES games, I always crafted a male character for the simple reason that I'm a male, and slaying monsters and bandits is "Men's Work". Indeed, it took me a while to roll a female character that was anything other than a joke to be played with for 20 minutes, and abandoned.

This eventually changed when I started playing Oblivion, and facegen became a major component of character creation. Sure, I could whip up a gruff male face in five minutes and call it done, but, as I explored Oblivion's facegen, I began to realize that I enjoyed creating female faces much more than male ones. I invested alot more time and thought into female faces, which in turn led me to investing more into the characters themselves. This trend has since spread to games like Dragon Age or Demon's Souls, and replays of Daggerfall and Morrowind.

So, how many of you guys play almost exclusively as females? How many girls play as males? How do you justify this decision? Is it purely aesthetic?

I'm a male and I never play females. They are to weak compared to males. I cannot enjoy a game when I play as a female.

It's a scientific fact. I'm an average male and I'm way stronger than the average female my age.

It's pretty equal for me.

At first I'd only play as male characters because there was that barrier that I didn't necessarily want to cross. I learned to mod, and then I read a suggestion in a roleplaying thing on UESP wiki about being a Breton mother, and for some reason the idea really appealed to me so I did it and it ended up being fun. So then I started to consider everything, and I started playing as girls a bit more. Now, I have nothing against those who do, but I don't download body mods and all of the super-feminine animations because I just find them excessive.

Anyway, my characters are about 50-50 since I only roleplay, and I love making stories... I just find it hard to stick to them.

But are you a better..."spellcaster"? We're talking about Tamriel, here, not real life. In Tamriel, there are many definitions of strength.

I used to play as my gender, exclusively (male). However, since then I have come to think that females are generally cooler (no offense), especially in the role of heroes.
