i'm a male, always play as males. mostly warriors too

call me gay if you want for always playing buff muscular men, i don't care. the truth is i grew up idolizing powerful heroic characters such as batman, the terminator, conan, john mcclane, ect. i love the feeling of playing a character that everybody wants to be stood next to when something bad goes down

the 'i'd rather spend all day staring at a girls ass than a guys' is stupid, and i've heard it used IRL. maybe i game differently to most but i spend most of my time looking at whats ahead of me and my surroundings, not my characters ass

People don't really think like that, do they? I didn't realise wanting to grow up to be like Lara Croft made me gay

(this dream ended when I realised being an archeologist was more centered on boring academia and rooting round in pits rather than kicking ass :toughninja: )

I don't know, but the extremes on either side that always show up in these threads are hilarious to me.

Not if you know anything about the history of the Germanic people.

Women were often warriors... and leaders.

They liked to run at their enemy, naked and screeching, wielding a big axe. The males, too, actually. Often painted blue.

Hence the naked Nords...

I'm aware. However, this thought probably isn't passing through most people's heads when they're rolling a Barbarian of any sort.

I generally play as male characters. In Oblivion I thought the bonuses for males were generally more ideal to my characters than the bonuses for females. Also someone else said something about their character being an extension of their self, and I feel similarly. I like to put myself in my character's shoes (or boots, as it were) and being a male myself, I find that it's far easier for me to do that if I play as a male character. I have made female characters but generally I roll with male. I've never really thought about why that is, so maybe this explanation is just an attempt at justifying it; honestly I've never even noticed it until now.

I usually play as male (my gender). Not to be anti-feminist or anything I just always thought dungeon-diving and goblin-killing was a man's job.

What annoys me is when guys justify it as "I don't want to stare at some guy's butt for hours." Well, I got a few objections
1) If a guy really doesn't want to stare at their male character's butt for hours, why are they looking at it in the first place? You ask me, they don't want to really admit they're may actually like guys.
2) If I wanted to stare at a women's butt and boobs for an extended period of time, I'd go to other mediums than a game.

Yeah, exactly. I don't judge, but I think it's pretty sad that guys get their kicks from playing girls in a video game.
Go have six or something.

I do get the feeling that male gamers who often play as female characters don't necessarily want to "be their character," but they want to "control her" and enjoy being able to make her do things, whether that is kill someone or take off her armor oh so slowly. Not always true, but the impression I get.

I've always played a male, except one character, and the characters I've spent the longest time playing were two Imperials (and one Argonian). Nords are a close second, and one Breton I made Archmage...and although the only race I've never used was High Elf, all the others had very little time invested in them, under half a dozen hours maybe.

Laura Croft is an archeologist? Huh.

I don't know, I'm a dude, and I've never played a female in an RPG because I'm not much of a roleplayer. I just make something to go through the game in. I can see why there would be reasons for a guy to make a female character other than digitally expressing one's gender confusion, but i stick to being male. Maybe I'll give it a try, seeing as how the stat differences could make a real difference in the way that certain builds preform.

I don't know why but, every time I try and make a female character, I usually ditch it after level 1 of whatever I'm playing.
It just seems inferior, weak, perhaps more ignorant even, than a male.

Came to the forums to observe the TESV hype and thought I'd chime in on this thread.

I'm a girl and play as guys almost exclusively. So sue me, I like dudes, they're easy on the eyes. And I get to watch my guy's butt while he does the Oblivion hip swagger.

I also find that playing the opposite gender helps with the suspension of disbelief - I don't know, it's easier to get into the story and the world, for me. When I play a girl it feels too much like an extension of myself. It's easier to sympathize with a character who isn't... uh, me.

But hey, different strokes for different folks.

I'm a male and play mostly as males. I've tried playing as a female, but got creeped out when male characters hit on "me." This is especially true for Fallout 3.

male exclusively. i did play female in WoW years ago and got a ton of free stuff including purple gear just by flirting with the other players. other than that i cant get into females characters. i keep imagining that im supposed to be at the mall shopping for shoes or something.

i prefer male characters in almost every game that i'm given the option...unless the experience is drastically different from male to female. fallout 3 was one of the few games i completed with a female character, and i'm glad i did because much of the experience was very different simply because of the way many characters treated me.

in TES games, i never got into my female characters. i thought they were interesting, but the characters and gameworld never really recognized gender at all in my experience.

TES games I never play cross-gendered. Really, there's nothing different about it to make it interesting.

Fallout 3? I made a sniper queen. The Black Widow/Lady Killer perks were reason enough to try...

I am a guy and I always play as one. I tried making a few female characters but I always end up restarting after a few minutes, I can never feel like I am actually the character, I just feel like I'm playing the game.

Play almost exclusively as female. If I try and play as a male the character ends up as a caricature. A limitation on my part I guess. I certainly don't see anything wrong about playing a member of the opposite six. The essence of roleplaying is playing as somebody different to yourself.
