How many of you play almost exclusively as a member of the o

I play as my own gender, because I feel that it feels a bit strange to play as the opposite gender.

I always do both. I'm a white male and I've played TES as a White Female, a Dark Elf Female and Male, a Redguard Male, a Bosmer Male , a Kajilt Male and an Argonian Male.

...the only character I haven't played as is a White Male.

I enjoy downloading nvde patches and staring at naked computer models,

obviously I (mostly) play female

On a slightly more serious note though (the above does have a grain of truth) for some reason I'm able to be more empathetic towards my character if its a 'she', perhaps said nudity play a part?

In MMOs I always play male :|

I wonder what Freud would have to say about that.

Eh, I mainly play as a female on Oblivion even though I'm a guy due to the fact that I often go into third person (ME and DA:O got me to love third person) and I would rather have a feminine form to stare at as opposed to male form. Same with every fantasy RPG game. I love playing as an elf (dark or wood) and the male versions are always so weak and stupid looking. Just my opinion; we need more LoTR movie style male elves.

Though I tend to play as a guy in FO3 and most other heavy shooting games (ME), I tend to play as a male.

In many RPGs I play as a female because a tiny bit more care seems to be taken with clothing, hair styles, and the ability to highlight facical features with makeup. In the end you can make far more diverse female characters in many games. Just as a male artist might draw the female form because that is what 'interests' them, I usually find it more fun to make a female character. I like the creative process of tweaking all the choices to make my 'Venus de Milo'.

Being a woman, I almost always choose a female character. Like some others have said, it makes me relate to them more easily.

As a man I it's easier to identify with male characters. I only try female characters when I want to see RPG games from a different perspectives, or if I want to test out certain things within the game.
If I make a character who is focusing on speech in Fallout 3 for instance, I choose a female because you talk to more men than women.

I dunno, I always get the feeling that the game was designed for male characters. I mean they talk to you like you're a guy, you can't have a "girly talk". I know they refer to you as "lady" but still... it doesn't *feel* quite right. I mean it feels weird when a strong muscular orc or something asks a hot girl to go to a cave and kill a bunch of goblins or something... and they reward her with a sword.

To all the people saying "it's weird to play as the opposite gender".
Would you care to explain?

After all, it's hardly creepy. I'd much rather play a female character that I have to think how to roleplay. Trying to think like a girl is hard. Yes, I do prefer to look at my female characters. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, I'll happily say if I think a guy is attractive. I just prefer spending more time creating a good looking female, which in turn makes me feel more attached to that character.

My most recurring character, Aralin Hlerayn is a Dunmer mage. On Oblivion I spent 20 minutes trying to get her look just right. On Morrowind I spent days looking for the perfect face and hair mods to get the look I wanted.
Whereas with a male I can whip up an attractive (at least to my mind) character in seconds.

Call me a freak, but I like to take time over characters I'm going to obsess about. TES is my favourite game series ever, I think about it, I write about it. I can't do that for a character I created in seconds, there's no attachment.

On the whole I play a mix of characters, but mostly men. And pretty much for one reason alone, as a female I despise the skimpy armor female characters are forced to wear. I don't mind my female toons looking a bit sixy, I'm Bi and I quite enjoy 'window-shopping', but the ridiculous barely there s*** most games force on thier females make me sick. Even TES games aren't totaly immune, none of the female characters I make a girly, so the automatic conversion of clothes in Oblivion really irks me.

i think most people just want to play the game. i wear nice looking armor which i check out once in awhile in vanity mode and i have my face down to a science, it takes me less than 2 minutes now and usually i just import the same face with wrye bash. some things just seem weird to me cause they are devoid of logic. although playing female in MMOs gets you lots of freebies i found out. :)

for TES games, playing a "hot" female character usually entails downloading armor mods that are basically steel bikinis and body mods that make them either have dolly parton sized boobs or they are thin swimsuit model bodies. ok so it looks nice........so what. it looks like something out of a 70s amazon movie, or xena the warrior princess and provides no protection whatsoever and girls that look like they would be hard pressed to hold a shield and weapon at the same time. maybe if they had more buff body mods it might make sense but as of now those types of girls need help opening a jar of pickles.

call me a stickler for realism but even in a fantasy setting some things have to make sense to me.

That's 'cause she's a roving mercenary, or some other degree of badass. Unless you're roleplaying as a bar wench, or something, in which case you'd have no justification for dungeon crawling. There's no masculine or femenine way to slay villains - they're standing between you and your goals, and they must be destroyed. Granted, a male is probably more likely to be swinging a titanic war hammer, but that's besides the point. There are tons of female NPC adventuers in-game - learn from their example.

I just rolled a male Altmer in Oblivion, and, like any other character, I obsess over his face and wardrobe. My desire to craft attractive characters isn't really limited to females - I just like making faces. So, I suppose I'll take a break and play as a dude for a while.

I never had armour mods on Morrowind, and I play Oblivion on xbox. I know what you mean though, a lot of the screenies you see of "attractive" female characters comprise of little more than a patch of metal covering places, attached with string. Not my cup of tea. I also enjoy realism, which is why all my female characters are Mages/Stealth based. Not to say women can't be warriors, I just don't play them. I can't get round the idea of a skinny little Elven girl beating the crap out of an Orc with a Warhammer.

I tend to wear the dresses in Oblivion, because they're pretty.

I'm a male.

It's far more difficult for me to RP a female than it would be to think in a foreign language. Or maybe it's the same thing.

What do you mean, "in-game transsixual"? For that, I'd have to be roleplaying as a transsixual.

When I create a female character in TES, I roleplay as a female. Not a male pretending to be female, or a female pretending to be male. I'm just a male enjoying the fantastic adventures of a fictional female character. Does playing Bayonetta make one an "in-game transsixual"?

Its called roleplaying. You play someone different to yourself. Not that I can do it myself where gender is concerned. I can put myself in the role of a warrior, mage or assassain, a catperson or lizard, someone with pointy ears, or a different colour skin to myself. I just can't manage a male and feel comfortable in the role.

For what it's worth, you probably have more in common with the opposite six than an Argonian of the same six. =)
