How do I 'merge mods'?

Probably another topic about this, but I have no clue where it is..


Anyways, for example: I have Capucines Colorable Beast Hair + Eyes and Robert's Male Body Installed(Can't remember which). I have both of them enabled, but when I go into the game, Capucines Colorable Beast Hair + Eyes is not there. I have to disable the mod for Robert's Male Body in order for Capucines Colorable Beast Hair + eyes to work.


If I'm not mistaken, it's called merging. Is there any way to merge these mods? ^_^

Have you rebuilt your bashed patch to include them? That's the best way to get cosmetic mods to play nice together.

Okay, Wrye Bash sounds familiar, but I wasn't sure what it was. It sounded a little complicated for me so I didn't really check into it much. If it's recommended though, I will :)

Actually, no. I haven't. I didn't know that Capucine did an updated version ^_^

EDIT: Okay, I downloaded Wrye Bash ^_^ But I don't know how to do the Bashed Patches thingy.. :P

Okay, I read through everything and did what it told :D

Not sure if I have to have the 'Bashed Patch' file thing enabled, though.. :P The box is red and it says that one or more masters are missing(Missing Dread Knight Armor Addon.esp DELINQUENT Dread Knight Armor.esp). When Bashed Patch is enabled, I start Oblivion but it goes back to the desktop.

Any way to fix this? ^_^

Yes, the delinquent master error message is telling you that you are either 1) missing files, or 2) your load order is out of order.

First of all use http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 to sort your load order. You can launch it from within Wrye Bash. Then rebuild your patch again.
If you still have issues, post your load order here so we can give better advice. (In Bash, in the Mods tab, right click on the header File, go to List Mods, copy/paste everything here)

If your going to mod your game it's best to know the utilities your going to need.
Run your load order through BOSS and address the issues it highlights.
You'll undoubtedly require other utilities like OBSE, TES4edit, TES4Lod, OBMM etc.
Search for them on TESNexus.

What this means is that the "Dread Knight Armor.esp" is needed for the "Dread Knight Armor Addon.esp" to work. You need to download and install that mod before you can play, else uninstall "Dread Knight Armor Addon.esp" to prevent crashing.

Ok, still not quite right. One step at a time.

0E Dread Knight Armor Addon.esp

These are definitely wrong, and if BOSS did that, it should be reported in the BOSS thread. For now, you can highlight Dread Knight Armor.esp in the Mods tab of Bash, and use CTRL + Up Arrow to move it up in the order, so it's before the Addon.esp.

32 Capucines Character Expansion.esp
35 Capucine'sColourableBeastHair+Eyes.esp
You don't need both. The Expansion incorporates the BeastHair+Eyes, so you can remove that one from your order.

Once the Dread Knight Armor.esp is fixed, rebuild your bashed patch again. Don't run BOSS again though. If you've built your bashed patch correctly you should see several of the mods turn to green text and the check marks turn to + signs. This is a good thing. And yes, when finished the bashed patch should always be activated.

There could be many causes for crashes. You should download Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP), its supplementals, and Unofficial Official Mod Patches (UOMP) to bring some stability to the game. Ans possibly get Oblivion Stutter Remover.

You know what? It seems you are good at reading. You really should read this http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=intro_to_mods to get the best practices and avoid a frustrating modblivion experience. Read the other sections, specific to what you are looking for, but really read the newcomer's guide.

I've tried reading through the guide, but I haven't really found anything that could help me in fixing the problem with the Bashed Patch causing the game to crash when loading a saved game(Or starting a new one). I've also downloaded the UOP and UOMP, but the problem still persists. I'm able to play the game with the Bashed Patch file disabled, though. Just not sure how to fix it so that it doesn't crash.. :unsure:

Ok, that's an indication that there is something wrong in the Bashed patch. Probably one of the most difficult things for others to troubleshoot for you, as only you can see it. :)

Some tips;

1) Don't check every category and assume it'll work - it won't. Go through each category on the left side slowly. If there are any of your mods listed in the right hand side, then check them and check the left side category.
2) Everything in Merge Patches should be checked.
3) Typically everything in the Import categories should be checked.
4) If there's no mods listed on the right side when you click on a category, then don't check it!
5) Any of the Tweak categories are optional. Since this is your first time, I'd suggest NOT checking anything here.
6) Cobl Catalogues and Cobl Exhaustion are only if you use Cobl.
7) If there's anything listed under Leveled Lists, check that category.
8) If you have any race mods or body replacers they'll be listed under Race Records, so check that if there is.
9) DO NOT check Replace Form ID's.

The Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide linked several posts up is an easy to follow guide for first-timers. Have you looked through that?

Which version of Wrye Bash are you using? You should be using v291.

Try these steps...
  • Run BOSS
  • Manually adjust the load order of any mods not recognised by BOSS - I noticed in your BOSS listing above that there were quite a few mods that were not recognised.
  • Select all mods (Ctrl-A), right-click and select Mark Mergeable
  • Now rebuild your bashed patch - use only Merge Patches and the Import xxx, with the exception of Import Names.
  • Exit Wrye Bash and try your game.
  • If it still crashes, use Wrye Bash to list your mods and post the version that shows the bashed patch in the list (it should also show us what is being merged and imported)

If so, then you missed the most important part of Alt3rn1ty's Guide: BASICS 6 This advises you on the Imports and Tweaks you should include in the patch. Because you are having such trouble, start with the few he lists as "Always Select". If that works, go back and include the ones he "Recommends."

If you are missing Masters or other major errors, Bash should complain while compiling.

I am also surprised that none of your mods require OBlivion Script Extender (OBSE.) You should also consider installing Common OBLivion (COBL.)


Which version of Wrye Bash are you using? You should be using v291.

My understanding is that this is unnecessary in the latest version—at least mine does this for me automagically. Basically you get a dialog that says which mods are Mergable and asks permission to unselect them and Merge.

If you are using v291 or earlier, then you still need to do this - there are occassions when they are not automatically identified, so it is best to do this before building a bashed patch
