Well, we're in the same boat. I've never played Skyrim, so I can't compare them either

perhaps OP wants to compare the comparison of MW and OB with a comparison of OB and Skyrim?

Morrowind is superior in atmosphere, depth, graphics, art style, and overall aesthetics.

I love MW more than OB but I think is better if we can discuss this in the TES general discussion. Btw, I like your Beatles avatar there.

I'd suggest the mods leave this here, for the sake of traffic. But...

Morrowind - Better story, more depth, a bit more complicated

Oblivion - Easier to grasp, better graphics,

Love 'em both :tes:

This is probably going to be moved but I might be able to sum it up for you, OP.

Morrowind is obviously an older game so some of the elements of game play aren't quite as refined as Oblivion. Combat tends to be more clunky and not as interesting, and the AI leaves a lot to be desired.

Why do people love it so much? It had a very interesting story, the environment was more varied and exotic than Oblivion, and you had perhaps a bit more freedom, at least in terms of abilities such as levitate. Some people argue that these had the potential to break the game and make it way too easy, as you could bypass enemies and outsmart the AI. Others say it's just another aspect of the freedom in the game.

Play it if you want something to enjoy before Skyrim- you should be able to get the GOTY for about $20.00. If you can envelop yourself in the finer points of the game then the lesser qualities aren't noticed.

Aesthetics yes. Graphics no, unless you're comparing Morrowind with the sound/graphics overhaul to vanilla Oblivion.

Morrowind has more character. Morrowind is more like a work of art than it is a game. Oblivion improves on areas that are lacking in Morrowind, mainly gameplay mechanics.

More things apply to graphics that just technical crap... (aesthetics, art style....)

Aesthetics and such are a major factor in determining good graphics....

From a technical perspective on graphics Oblivion>Morrowind, but that is not what I was talking about.

Oh, and Modded Morrowind>Modded Oblivion in terms of graphis as well.

Really doesn't seem the right place but sure I'll give my 2 cents.

Morrowind basically feels like a more unrefined Game and unrefined Oblivion, just like Daggerfall felt like an unrefined Morrowind. Its a good game, but I think a lot of people think the small things of Oblivion for granted. Like real-time combat instead of dice-rolls, or the fact that there is more foot-step variation sounds (a small thing, but I have good ears, and I hate hearing these two sounds over and over). The Radiant AI in Oblivion isn't perfect but you actually begin to notice how much better it was than Morrowind, with everyone awkwardly standing around or walking randomly, or just blocking a door/passage by standing infront of it.

Its a good game, but basically, all the refinements Oblivion had, aren't there. But give it a chance, you get used to the dice-roll combat and the atmosphere is good.

Just like you, OP, I played Oblivion first, but then saw Morrowind GOTY at my Best Buy for 20 bucks, I got it and it was instant love! I have had more hours into that game than Oblivion!

I consider each ES to stand on its own as its own game. That being said...

Morrowind had a lot of intrigue, excitement, a good storyline, art direction, and was just a overall great game. The entire premise of it was that it was made to feel very foreign, like you were indeed in a completely different world outside of your own, inside a fantasy game no less. Gameplay wise, I had a few complaints, but for the most part it was very well done.

Oblivion had some improvements in this department, but its storyline was lacking, and I felt that I couldn't attach to any of the characters at all, which is integral for game depth. The setting was exactly what I was expecting. The heart of a human empire, I was expecting the normal fantasy vibe from it, and I embraced it. I just feel that so much more could of been done with it and some potential was lost in this aspect. Skyrim so far seems to be taking the strong points of both games and melding them together, and I have no doubt that it will work seamlessly. That, and Skyrim being my favorite province, I am ecstatic to finally explore it and take in such a storied land. I will love to explore a forieng local once again, namely Summerset isles.

I don't see how Morrowind is any of these.

Also its easy as hell, I don't know why everyone says it is hard. I've coasted around at level 7-8 with over 4000+ gold and nothing to spend it on as I have full imperial steel and do just fine in it.
