How much customization really?

Post » Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:52 pm

In most of the gameplay videos it shows mostly just stock weapons being used. A LOT OF IRON SIGHTS. You never really see silencers, scopes, or different magazines being used on the weapons in the videos. For a game that boasts how customizable things are in the game, they sure aren't showing it in their gameplay vids.

This has me worried about the kind of barriers that are in place to impede your customization options.

Your customizable, a feature most shooters have neglected or barely implemented.

Hows that?

Up to 4 attachments can be attached to a gun at once. This includes silencers, scopes, grips, muzzle breaks etc.

I think the better question is to what exstent can we customize our weapons. i mean since the last vid on this sort of thing (the that Wraith has in his post) was well quite awhile ago how do we know that we can equip the weapon with all attatchments?
(side note that same vid is posted in Joe+ last post above mine)

As I said, you can equip a weapon with up to four attachments, it just makes it so that it takes a longer amount of time to switch to it (or Equip Speed ) as seen http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.fpsvideogamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Brink-Weapon-Screen.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.fpsvideogamer.com/brink-e3-demo-all-you-need-to-know/&usg=__ZsKKY1l5oNvS9G0hpIodwz03CxQ=&h=284&w=520&sz=79&hl=en&start=0&sig2=1POwRPbIlHDLOjZdqyPBZA&zoom=1&tbnid=eZuV6qKn2BmXzM:&tbnh=129&tbnw=237&ei=8gypTePiDYbliALMucGXDw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbrink%2Bweapon%2Bstats%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D651%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=381&oei=8gypTePiDYbliALMucGXDw&page=1&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0&tx=190&ty=48. This might be the reason why alot of players in gameplay videos or trailers weren't rocking completely decked out weapons.

A gun in its stock form is mechanically ideal and when used with no other regular attachments you are essentially using the most balanced version of your current weapon. Adding attachments can "specialize" or give you an advantage in certain areas but the trade off is Equip Speed and maybe even movement speed. I don't think a Light BT character that slaps a drum mag on their SMG should be allowed to move at the blistering speeds Light types are known to move at. Maybe not down to the extent of a Medium player's speed so that the Light BT speed advantage remains competitive regardless of attachment but lowered nonetheless.

If you want to customize the options are there, its a game that prides itself on its expansive avatar and gun customization systems so obviously I would expect them to support variable attachment combos but also to balance it properly so that attachments do not become necessary.

I know that theres customization for gun parts (mags, scope etc) but will there be customization regarding the guns appearance similar to COD like camos and text? I heard something about exclusive skins for some guns being available in pre-order packages so I was wondering.

There are exclusive skins for certain preorders. An interview said that their were camos in the game.

I would just like to say something about people using the term "silencers" the more correct term is "suppressors".

Just sharing some information <3

Taken from a source:
The proper name Silencer has since fallen out of favor with some among the firearms industry, being replaced with the more literally accurate term sound suppressor or just suppressor, because a "sound suppressor" does not "silence" any weapon, rather it eliminates muzzle flash and reduces the sonic pressure of a firearm discharging.

So it sounds like an age group thing., lol. I have always called it a silencer.

LOL. just a friendly post.

I think Splamage said they had a preference for iron sights in one of the vids or interviews. And in a gamplay vid you really wouldnt see someone turn over their gun and be like "Whoa! Look at dis extended mag! OH YEA!"

Well I have seen the variety of attachments and such along with hearing about cammo's but I would like to think that all the ones they showed in the videos were not all the ones in the game (just the same for your clothing options and such). Also reminds me of how I asked a while back about what peoples thoughts of choosing what ammo types can be in your gun too. (yes Wraith I know there is the soldiers ability for armor piercing an incendiary but there are more than 3 types of ammo's for guns lol).

I still just want to wrap my LR in a bit of old dirty rags. Camo looks cheesy to me.

And while we're on the whole correcting terms thing, it's a muzzle brake, not a muzzle break.

Whoops, I'll remember that. And yes, I also agree that camo does usually look cheesy, but some of the more contemporary skins can look pretty sweet.

I'm just wondering how long it'll take to unlock the customizations you want.

I do hope the "Bomb" helmet and "Tank" vest come early on in the game...
