How much customization?

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 5:43 pm

You can change the colour (or rather painting/texture) on each piece of clothing. This can also be seen in several videos.

Well.. If that is so, then the customization options (clothes) was'nt as many as I originally thought :(

Maybe I will have to say goodbye to my scrapped jeans and flanell shirt idea :cryvaultboy:

EDIT:

Or is the 10 set thing just for the start? As you unlock more when you level up, yeah?

i got a question.

In these videos with gameplay I see a lot of blue at the securety and more colorfull with the resistance. Is that for ever, i mean are you going to see that in every match(i hope not)? Or can i put for example red colors on my Security dude?

Putting Red on a Security guy is most likely not going to happen, unless it's an odd shade of Red. The colors you can use for each faction are deliberately different, so players can tell the difference between them on the battlefield, and I know red or "warm" colors are for Resistance.

15 (seven Securty, eight Resistance) out of 20 (ten each).

LoL that IS NOT a lot of customization at all. If they release with less than 50 outfits I'll be pissed. Saints Row has more customization than that....

I'm not entirely sure people are getting it... Each outfit is made out of a lot of different factors, which can each be modified, chopped and changed to create an immense amount of different outfits and styles.
Also, i'm not sure about this but through looking at the videos it seems that there are also a fair few clothing items that are not archetype specific / from an archetype, and just extras to use or add to your character. Not sure though!

People also aren't taking into effect that Brink is an FPS, not a third person action game or an MMO, so practically ANY amount of customization is welcomed.

Customization is a major emphasis in BRINK. I expect PLENTY of customization options.....idc if it's an RPG, MMO, TPS, racing/sports, or fighting game. If you're gonna advertise customization as much as SD has, then live up to it and give the audience as much content as possible.

But they have...like Richard Ham said - "It's incredibly deep for a first person shooter."

I don't know why, but I am thinking of Halo Reach

If it's just 20, then it's not that much, even if you can change textures

I think the focus was that you could mix and match different pieces together, to get something good and cool looking

And then I think there only is like.. I don't know, not much we have'nt seen yet of the customization options, so we can expect a few new sets all in all, but then the texturing aint counted in, and that's just colouring in the end, yeah?

Anyways.. It wont stop me from getting BRINK :P

What, this one?

It ties directly into what Ham said. Yes, customization is a big part of Brink - because no other FPS really has anything like Brink has, so they toot their horn all they want. They never said the customization in their game would rival anything you've ever seen. You seem to just be taking things out of context.

You can mix things up. Even if you play MMORPGS or something like the Sims, you have limitied options. They said that they have +- the same amount of customization avvailable as one of the sims games on the playstation. Which is HUGE for and FPS.

Atleast I got my ''The Eel'' suit :>

But anyways.. The different ''pieces'' of clothing you can wear, was not as much as many of us expected, some knew, some did not, and the majority did not, or well.. I don't know if it's too much to ask, but is there a post by a developer or a interview confirming this? Also, are you guys 100% there wont be more unlockable clothing? (Perhaps they wont be in a set, just a item, all alone, ex: The Boiler Suit?)

LoL that IS NOT a lot of customization at all. If they release with less than 50 outfits I'll be pissed. Saints Row has more customization than that....

Just to give you and idea of how deep the customisation in BRINK is:

The Anger consists of
    The Hood (Headgear)
    The Mask (Facegear)
The Jacket (Outer upper body gear ?)
    The Trousers (Lower body gear)
    The Shoes (Footwear)

The Dude consists of
    The Mohawk (Hairstyle)
    The Mask (Facegear)
The Shirt (Inner upper body gear ?)
The Tire-Armour (Outer upper body gear ?)
    The Elbow-Pads (Accessoires ?)
    The Trousers (Lower body gear)
    The Shoes (Footwear)

I assume the average amount of parts is 5, however, 10 sets with at least 5 parts each means there is helluva lot customisation already.
Plus changing the colour doesn't simply mean what was green before is now red, but has a different style now.

The obvious upside of this ostensible lack of customisation is, that the clothing offers a lot of details (e.g. The Fortress, The Jesse) and will most likely not clip through other parts when randomly combined.

I do not think shoes are a separate piece. I think it is simply "lower body" as a whole (pants and shoes)

Graffiti is only available on Resistance guns (no link but makes sense), and I believe the writing is dependent on the skin/color

BRINK will have more pieces of clothing than APB, I believe. But of course it doesn't have player-created texture-designs.

According to Olivier Leonardi' quote those are 75% of all outfits.

We know that the Security will have "The Eel" as well.
And in the "A Choir Of Guns"-trailer we see a miner's helmet and a face-mask, which are both not part of any Resistance-outfit we know.

Also, I guess, SplashDamage will add new archetypes to the game in the future. And perhaps there will be bonus-items which are not part of any archetype-outfit in the future as well?

Highly doubt that, there was about 20 of each type of clothing, that could be fully customized.

You are correct, some alternate "skins" can be found in the preorder packs.
though you dont need to preorder to use skins
