How much customization?

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 3:50 pm

SD has said there will be deep customization but how many outfits are you guys expecting for each side? Obviously color variations add to it but "a lot" of customization to one is not "a lot" to everyone. Thoughts? A lot to me is well over 100 and I doubt there will even be that many at launch.

But they are based off premade-outfits, or archetypes, that players can mix or match. Like Olivier Leonardi, the games Art Director said:

"what we did was, we defined 10 archetypes that all show a different personality in the story, so we have ten strong characters per faction, and then you can mix-and-match everything, so you can make a million different characters from these ten good-looking guys."

So you have 10 archetypes for each side, that can be mixed and matched to form the look you want.

For example, "The Shield" is an outfit in Brink and you can mix and match the pieces. That is what I meant by "outfit".

Yes. Every component of that archetype, can be swapped out independently.

I'm sure there will also be items that don't apply to archetypes, like tattoos and facepaint, that you can add as well.

I know the game has tattoo's and facepanit, what I'm saying is, I don't think they are attached to any archetypes.

You will have so much customization you won't know what to do with yourself. Yes, it's that intense.

there are also several different textures for each archetype, so each character should become psudo-unique with how many combinations you can make.

"...ten good-looking guys"
I can't agree with Olivier Leonardi

It should be ten guys in good looking clothing.
Since all cept one or two have really ugly faces (too old aswell).

I don't think it's immense like APB, but pretty big. I wouln't put money on no one else looking a little like you.

Hey Guys, i'm new to the forum but have been following Brink for months and months!! I have to say that the customisation within the game looks absolutely immense.
From what i have seen, the fact that you can look unique and still be in line with one of the teams distinct stylings intrigues me muchly. Making a mohawked, masked, tyre clad, shotgun wielding psycho is one of the things i'm most looking forward to!

BRINK will have more pieces of clothing than APB, I believe. But of course it doesn't have player-created texture-designs.

According to Olivier Leonardi' quote those are 75% of all outfits.

We know that the Security will have "The Eel" as well.
And in the "A Choir Of Guns"-trailer we see a miner's helmet and a face-mask, which are both not part of any Resistance-outfit we know.

Also, I guess, SplashDamage will add new archetypes to the game in the future. And perhaps there will be bonus-items which are not part of any archetype-outfit in the future as well?

Well, I think once the game goes live, and a month in, we're going to see which clothing people really like. As in 20% of players are wearing it.

That does look cool, but stereotypically cool. I agree, there will definitely be a lot of people rocking it, maybe too many. Hopefully with variations to the rest, it's all about variety!

i got a question.

In these videos with gameplay I see a lot of blue at the securety and more colorfull with the resistance. Is that for ever, i mean are you going to see that in every match(i hope not)? Or can i put for example red colors on my Security dude?
