Far too much to be able to fly, even IF their bones are hollow. (But they aren't, right?) /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

I'll answer this if you tell me how much a woodchuck could chuck, assuming of course that a woodchuck could chuck wood.

A dragon weighs nada.
Or do you think that's air you're breathing in game on the grid?
Hmm...

Dragon bone hammer is one of the heaviest weapon in the game, so I don't think they're hollow.
And I agree they are way to heavy to fly that effortlessly. Not that I have a problem with it just thought it'd be cool to point out.

Well, I always like to think they're able to fly not only because of their wings, but because they are magical creatures. Otherwise it would be ridiculous seeing how Paarthurnax is able to fly with all those holes in his wings...

They weigh and they don't weigh. They are divine creatures and they can decide what they are in the world. If they want to fly, then [censored] physics and let the dragons fly.

Back in the 70's, a magazine called Omni had an article about Dragons. It discussed them as if they actually existed and what they would have to be like to exist. I don't know if the article is online somewhere. But, they basically concluded that the dragons were built like birds, with hollow bones and not much mass. Their ability to fly came from being filled with Hydrogen or other flammable gas that is lighter than air (is there another one?). Perhaps it is a combo of gasses.

This is how I have thought of dragons from a practical standpoint. However, for most games and books, I just basically say they are magical creatures and that's why they can what they do.

Using real physics in this game does not always make sense because I can't walk up to someone and blast them in the face with a fireball can I?

Are you serious!? DId I just see a reference to Omni magazine! OMNI! Wow - that takes me back. If I get nothing else from the life-altering experience of getting back into RPGs with Skyrim after more than 20 years of abstaining, just that flashback was worth it.

Nothing, because the body of a dragon was not programmed with a weight value. During the very very brief moment in which the dragons body has a rag dolls physics before bursting into flames, it will roll around when bumped against very easy, rather than a creature who might logically weigh a ton or two.

Dunno if the article was at all related, but there was a book in the early 80s called The Flight of Dragons by Peter dikeinson that detailed all the key points of dragons, from flying (producing hydrogen gas by eating limestone and powerful stomach acids) to living in caves (eaten out of the limestone), to sleeping on gold (wouldn't dissolve under them if they drooled in their sleep), to fire breathing (electric-generating cells in the mouth - a la electric eels - that ignited the gas as it was exhaled). It also got done into a movie using the books dragons, the author as a character, and a handful of characters and plot points pulled from The Dragon and the George by Gordon dikeson. Strange movie, but the books are both worth a read.

Well, there's obviously gravitation on Nirn, so it should matter.

Even fantasy must follow its own logic.

@ Thrippa: that sounds familiar. And doesn't Terry Pratchett has something about that as well?

I would imagine they weigh a few hundred tons at least.

The omni article...I wonder if we could find it online and post it here? That would be so cool!
