How much more powerful can the Sole Survivor get?

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2016 11:50 am

So something occurred to me today after I replayed the Automatron final battle. One of the dialogue choices that you can give to report to Ada results in the sole survivor saying this with regards to the Mechanist and her base:

"I stopped her....the whole facility is now under my control."

And it dawned on me that the SS really is in complete control of a massive pre-war research facility able to produce hordes of robots to flood The Commonwealth and beyond. So potentially based on your characters choices in the game you are:

1. Director of The Institute, and leader of one of the most powerful factions on the East Coast (or, if you went Brotherhood. at least second-in-command of the most powerful faction on the East Coast).

and

2. General of The Minutemen (which, while mostly being an honorary title, could potentially be used to some effect in an ambitious SS plays his or her cards right).

and now

3. Owner of a massive robot factory and de-facto commander of a potential robotic horde.

I mean this is leagues more power than even a "wild-card" Courier had in New Vegas. Did the sole survivor just become one of the most powerful people in the continental United States?

So is anyone else going for the "achieve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_DqV1xdf-Y" playstyle? Personally I can't wait to see what other titles and political might my character can put under his belt.

God does not eat or drink=does not need to so you are just fulfilling the game design plan, all powerful.

Games have been headed in this direction for some time now.

You are god-like king of all you survey and the npc's revere you like one.

It's really kind of sad. Game companies must think their customer base are just sad, picked-on wisps sitting in a dark room that need validation and a chance to strike back at a world that doesn't appreciate them.

Aren't all games just power fantasies?

Anyway the vault dweller (why does everyone call him the sole survivor? It was never said in-game) also has artillery strikes, a few missiles from the chinese sub (not sure how these work yet i'm hoarding the becons), and his indie faction actually supports him (the people of boston). I actually like the minute men, its what the indie ending to new vegas should have been imo. I just wish it had more written quests instead of three and eternal radiant quests.

Whiteguy1x,

I'm straying off topic here, but where did you find these Chinese missile sub beacons you speak of?

Can't find anything in the wiki and this is the first I've heard of them.

I must have them! Please enlighten me.

Power corrupts, and absolute power would be really freakin' cool.

And yet, no matter how powerful you get.. The people of the wasteland treat you like a lowly pawn to throw into danger while they stay safely hidden away.

I would disagree that this is more powerful then the wildcard ending of NV.

Upgraded securotrons are far better then robots one cannot control, which was the whole background point of the DLC, that the robobrains made at the facility cant REALLY be controlled.

ideally you wouldn't use the robobrains due to their skynet tendencies. Using basic robots to patrol, serve and protect settlements would put the vault dweller above the indie courier imo. Mainly because the courier's influence is only enforced in new vegas and the dam. The whole commonwealth is allied to the vault dweller, and there doesn't seem to be a cap on the amount of non robobrained robots that can be created.

The missiles from the sub are gained from doing the "there be monsters" side quest. You only get three and i can't find a fight where they're worth using, so like every unique thing i hoard it.

The facility produces more than just robobrains though.

But I was more referring to the combination of Institute Director + General of the MM + Robobrain Facility King. That combined I think is more power than a wild-card Courier.

To clarify, I don't think this is a bad thing at all.

If you're given a position of power as a result of the game's story, shouldn't they?

I like/care about it more or less depending on which SS I'm playing.

BoS Sentinel doesn't really care for authoritative power, she just wants to wipe out raiders, muties and ferals because that's good for everyone and she's good at it.

Eldritch Worshipper has a goal similar to the Children of Atom, she's not interested in personal influence so much as expanding that of her gods.

Assassin doesn't mind her Director position so long as the organization remains self-sufficient, she's interest in field work and doesn't care for politics or management.

Warlord, while technically the MM General, in headcanon he's actually just the head of a raider army (settlers all have raider gear) that has no larger goal than merely sustaining itself since he's purely subservient to EW and has no dreams or desires of his own.

Scrap Queen is interesting imo in that she's a wastelander who scavenges and tinkers stuff for fun and any power she acquired is merely a side-effect of pursuing those goals. She has the power to conquer with a potentially infinite robot army and dotting her empire with huge junk fortresses but she doesn't because she just wants to build things for it's own sake. Similarly she's the most dangerous fighter in the Commonwealth just because it's necessary to be combat proficient in order to scavenge effectively.

Omnidisciplinarian is the only one who actually likes having power, she's the Head of a powerhouse of science, has a loosely organized army of settlers eating into her hand and now has control over a bunkered pre-war robotics facility. On top of personally being a heavily augmented transhuman.

Courier has robot army, human allies, nuclear shielded base, all of big mts resources.

SS has robot army, human allies, nuclear shielded base, all of Institute s resources AND immortality serum.

Even ignoring that no lvl cap means max special and all perks SS wins.

When I looked out from atop my bastion on Spectacle Island over the domain of my Commonwealth, I wept for there were no more factions or inept wanna-be's to conquer.

Existence of Alien Blaster on live Zetan points toward Sally not having a command of the Space above the Commonwealth. The Brotherhood building the Prydwen also points to the BOS having no access to MZ, and the WW Encounter in New Vegas also hints that Mothership Zeta has not been repaired by E.T. and Spaceship Sally.

The VD overloaded the Power Supply to the Death Ray :sadvaultboy:

Hopefully. I plan on using WW to build a cesspool of wanton depraved violence and, added wall signs permitting, on a predestal in the arena I'll write:

"My name is Doom, Queen of Queens, Look on my works, ye Mighty, and Despair"
