How much AR do I need on adept?

How high of an armor rating do I need on adept? I have a warrior character who also uses some restoration, destruction, and sometimes a shield. Is something like 300 going to be good enough? No alchemy or enchanting. He will have all the smithing perks, and maybe 3 perks in light and 3 perks in heavy armor. He will wear a combination of pre-enchanted armor. Is this feasible with 100 smithing and not using alchemy or enchanting? I would like to have a pretty strong character, but not ridiculous. Is it impossible to have good defense when spreading perks into light and heavy armor?

Thanks for the awesome answer. I currently have about 100 AR and almost got destroyed by the bandits in Treva's watch. Two-hand bandit chiefs can [censored] you up.

Those are the worst.

Get to 567, you'll be fine.
