How much is a parking ticket where you live?

Post » Thu Sep 09, 2010 2:41 am

Yearrgh, got a parking ticket today, I live in San Francisco. It can be a real big pain owning a car in this city. I'm just curious how much parking tickets / meters etc are around the country ( and world ) because it will help me whine and complain more efficiently. :)

Parking over two hrs in a residential area w/ out permit: $65

Street cleaning parking ticket: $55

Parking Meter Price: 8 minutes for 25 cents

About $20 dollars, though I live in one of the few areas of Montana where parkin' is actually difficult to come across.

I don't know. I ride a bike and live in a state where it is explicitly legal for motorcycles to park on the footpath. Which means 1) I've never paid for parking, 2) as long as I'm considerate, I'm unlikely to get a fine, and 3) its pretty easy for me to find a place to park.

Imagine a smug expression on my face . Especially since punching me would be rather expensive for you :P.

Where I live in the Uk it's £70 which works out at about $113. However if paid in 14 days it's £35 or $56.

Parking ticket, those have got to svck. We don't really have places to get parking tickets round here, and when I do go downtown I can usually get away with parking behind some business for awhile.

Haven't read any other posts besides yours OP, and I can't really say anything about parking tickets as I've yet to get one(knock on wood), but HOLY [censored], how in the world do you put up with 8 minutes for a quarter? Craminy, a quarter in my area gets you an hour!!!!!

There are no parking meters in my town. I have yet to see one in the 3 years I have been driving or the 18 years I have lived here. I have never gotten a parking permit.

It's San Francisco.

I would never drive, if I lived there. Walking is the way to go.

I do understand it's a bit city, but I'm still stunned by how expensive it is to park. I imagine it must be cheaper to use a parking garage if you insist on driving, rather the parking along the street. In my area, the exact opposite is true, it's cheaper to park along the streets, rather then find a parking garage.

I definitely agree though, walking is probably the best way to handle that situation though. course, doesn't San fran have LOTS and LOTS of hills?

Well few people actually park beyond the quick errand. Those are just some streets near or around businesses. But ya, 8 min a quarter is crazy, outside the city it is normal prices, SF justs like to stick it to you in that department

This is a fairly small town, but parking downtown is still relatively expensive compared to many other swedish cities. It cost 18kr per hour to park a car (many other towns are about 10kr), which is almost $3 USD.

I live about 35 miles south of San Fran, so it's about the same here. Still varies from city to city in the Bay Area of course, but not that much different. I think our parking meters are a lot better, tho. We're probably around 20minutes for 25 cents. ;)

Well I don't know about regular parking tickets..as we have a number of parking regulations so they vary. But during winter we have alternate side parking and it's $20 per ticket for that if you don't follow it. Then during snow emergencies it's a lot higher..haven't gotten one so don't know how much exactly. Then for parking on a street past the times it says not to it's $15-30..changes from time to time and last time we got one it was around that. I also got a ticket for 24 hour street parking cause my car was in the street for like 3 weeks and I suppose someone complained..even though it was in front of my house (we can't use the driveway). That was $20 but I got it reduced to $5 cause it's a silly law.

Depends on the offense. Anywhere from $20 to $250.
I have errands to run downtownish, which is why I will be riding my bicycle. Parking for bikes is FREE.

Where I live it can range from anything like $50 upwards to $400. There's really not a limit for what they can give you, but anything more than that is unusual.

I got one a few years back and IIRC I paid between £50-60, however if I had not paid it within a set time I think it doubles.

I mostly ride my bike every where in the city, but after 8 years w/ out a car i decided it was time for a change in mobility.

$25. Though if you park in a lot without the proper permit its $40. I found that out because after getting a ticket overnight I then moved my car to a lot and got another ticket. So I had two tickets for a total of $70 in about an hour.

I got one a couple of weeks ago. A parking fine in England (at least where I'm from) is £50, but it's discounted to £25 if you pay in the first 14 days

Where I live? Mandatory punishment for any ticket of any kind is a 6 month loss of driving privileges.
