How much of a Resource hog is Tamriel Hightmaps

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 11:24 pm

I was just wondering, because I wanted to have a look at Onra's Tamreil Landscapes Valenwood, once I load it and Tamriel heightmaps up I get a memory related CTD after cross two-three cells where normally I'd expected to play for an hour or so before having to worry about that.

I know this has to do with the exterior world because I have no problem with dungeon crawls, etc. so I was wondering if anyone had any info of just how much RAM these mods take up. I would imagine potentially quite a lot, but the Heightmap is just that, withour regions or anything and Valenwood lacks any population or pathgrid so it seems like a pretty drastic resource hog to go from "crashes eventually" to "can't get half way back to Chorrol from Black Rock Caverns."

Thoughts?

Other then maybe slightly longer 'Loading...' when I launch game, I haven't noticed any influence on performance when using Tamriel heightmap and I have a pretty crappy PC.
The game only loads certain number of cells at a time (5×5 usually iirc) so it shouldn't be a problem in any case.

Hardly any ... mostly due to the fact that while the land is there - there isn't much on them. Except for a few mod added locations (summerset mostly) it is just the land. No spawns towns or wandering NPCs.

I tried running the Valenwood Landscape, perhaps that is causing the crash. I will try with just the heighmap
