How Often Does Fallout 4 Crash For You?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 9:11 am

Twice in over 40 hours, I am careful to erase saved data after a while, those auto saves really wear on your hard drive if they are save on top of save so I make a new save and delete the old ones. The 2 times it crashed 1 was because of too much saved data and the other I telliported into the air and the game froze after aiming a new gun

Maybe it would be an idea if people could also mention how they manage their save files, just out of interest? Didn't that have something to do with Skyrim's problems on the PS3?

I've switched off all auto saves except in Pip-Boy, every 5 minutes. I quick save regularly and create a brand new main save every couple of hours of play time ( I never save on top of another save). I delete my main saves regularly, keeping the newest 3 at a time.

Level 47, Xbox One, approx 120 hours played. I've only had it crash twice. One got stuck in VATS and one got stuck in a settler inventory screen while equipping her with better gear.

76 hours in and only a single CTD around level 10 (now at 40). Compared to Skyrim (which still crashes every couple of hours for me), I'm quite impressed with the game's stability so far.

Hmm, considering quicksave und reload, I use it extremely often because I die about once every minute and I had no problems yet (except the one reported freeze).

157 hours and only one crash (when I was opening the Vault 111 door). There have been a couple others when I was exiting to desktop, but I hardly count those, since it took me to where I was going anyway.

During play, only two in more than 180 hours.

I have had a handful of freeze ups on start. This usually happens when I've been playing and close the game for whatever reason and then try to start it up again. Apparently something stays in the memory and prevents the game from loading up again sometimes. The reason I say that is because when it refuses to load for a second time I can load another game or something to reallocate the systems resources, then close that game and try Fallout 4 again and it loads up fine.

Xbox One, level 41, about 110 hours. I've have two hard crashes that required me to exit to the dashboard and quit the program manually.

PC with about 200 hours.

The only crashes I have seen were specific CTDs for known locations (a known bug). I have NOT seen a crash of this type since installing the BETA update and I have visited at least 3 locations that previously crashed every time I tried to enter those cells.

I do see some other annoying bugs that sometimes make me have to restart or reload a quicksave to resolve the issues. They include:

  • Weapon (and Pip-Boy) completely disappearing from first person view (I am running a lower weapon mod, so that's likely related).
  • Getting stuck (cannot move) after exiting a workstation. I have only seen this in combat areas when I am in stealth, so that may be related as well.

PC, on High+, ~80 hours. 1 CTD.

A couple times, I've exited out and had to hard-reboot my computer because for some reason the Start menu won't open anymore. Not sure what cause.

I've got some autosaves on, quicksave lots, and make manual saves frequently (always to a new file. I have to clear out my save folder sometimes, because when it's really full, the save menu takes a long time to load).

Only other bugs I've run into are increased lag when I've spent a long time adventuring in the busy areas of downtown (some kind of memory thing possibly?), and every so often I'll get a delay on switching guns (annoying when you're in combat and you try to switch from your sniper to a short-range weapon when that melee dude gets in your face.)
