How often does the Mysterious Stranger glitch?

Post » Sat Nov 13, 2010 6:35 am

So I'm level ten. I am not sure rather to get this or not. From the looks of it, it can make leveling go a bit slower but sounds worth it otherwise. However I read the Mysterious Stranger sometimes accidentally shoots the player character or even makes the game freeze. How rare are these incidents? For PC version if that makes any difference. If they are ridiculously rare I'll take the perk. So how often has it glitched for everyone?

I play on 360. I used him on one play-through before deciding that he was worthless. He always shot the enemy that was about to die anyway. And yes, he shot me once. It hurt really bad.

I have played through 2 & 2/3 times... take the Mysterious Stranger Perk every time and never ever had a problem. I play on a PC.

I had the perk for about 300 hours and the only glitch I had with him aside from him sometimes managing to completely miss the enemy was the time I'd carefully laid a minefield in anticipation of a Talon ambush and the Mysterious Stranger showed up and blew himself up in a glorious green explosion.

Whats happened to me was he appeared at the wrong place and from the postion he was standing in [in the room beside the room I was in (there was a wall between us)], he couldn't kill his target in VATS, making me have to restart my 360 numerous times. Can't believe that d*uchbag

Could you loot his pistol and his hat after he died?

Several levels later at level 20, and I don't regret getting the Mysterious Stranger. He appears pretty often for me, and after 22+ encounters I have yet to accidentally get shot. I'm glad I got the perk, even if it slows leveling a bit.

I only used him during my 1st playthrough. I don't use him any more too many good perks out there.

No, he didn't actually die. He blew up and landed on the ground during the scene, but after it ended he disappeared. About fifteen minutes later, he appeared back in action as I fired a shot at something else.

I agree, I wish I had spent this perk on something better. Also, he always comes to my rescue when I'm fighting a solitary mirelurk, never when I'm up against an Overlord or Reaver

Surprised to see this. I am too playing at xbox with the goty edition. The game has almost crashed 10 times because of the stranger. Once i was on this huge cliff, shooting at enclave beneath. Mysterious stranger showed up and the game froze. Then i reloaded a save, and the same thing happened.

So yeah, usually when theres a lot of enemies OR when youre at a huge distance, and the dude shows up, the game freezes.

I've got Fallout on PS3 and my wanderer has 10 luck (if that really makes a difference for you) and I don't find him very useful at all. He rarely ever seems to appear, kills something that's allready near death or misses. Sure there were a few instances where he did the job but with who knows how many hours of play time I've seen very little. Maybe like 30 times. I wouldn't worry so much about glitching but as to how useful he really is.

Wow: I'd never heard of these bugs. I have the PC GOTY edition and the only problem I get is that sometimes the game will play the music but the Stranger does not actually appear. The enemies still die as if the Stranger had shot them, though.
