I got quite inspired by the App thread and thought I′d conduct a little survey amongst the members here

As I said in that thread, the phone I′m using is ten years old this year and I have no plans getting a new one. In fact if this one dies I′ll start using an even older phone that also still works. I think that phone is about fifteen years old

http://img.gsmarena.com/vv/pics/samsung/sse300_00.jpg. While it does have a slight problem where the person I′m talking to can′t hear me that well it′s really no issue seeing as I only use it to text and take the odd photo. And it actually keeps the charge very well after all these years

I thought about adding a poll here but there′d be too many options ranging from hours/weeks etc where I believe most people are up to ten years where I am so I decided to skip that

Got this one when I moved out, so around a year I believe. Not like I use it much and I would have gone without a phone but work needed one.

3 months old. I change it every 2 years when I renew my data plan and they give me huge discount for a new phone > last discount was 90% from retail price

It's slightly over 1 year old. Iphone 5C.

Unless I drop the thing to its death a smartphone lasts me 3 or 4 years. I upgraded in December to Samsung Note 4.

Bought mine in October 2011, I think? Within a couple of weeks of the Nokia N9 being released, anyway (it was certainly around my birthday).

About 6 months, a Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus.

Funnily enough, the Nokia had a better camera than the Samsung

Galaxy S4 LTE-A, so not very old. Probably won't upgrade until the S6 is released.

Haven't owned a mobile for about 10 years. The landline is about 5 years old. Its cordless so its as mobile as I need it to be.

The camera in top line Nokia phones (Lumia) is phenomenal, the pictures I take with my Samsung look like they were taken with a potato compared to Nokia phones.

How old? Hmm...not sure. I have three land-line phones in the house, all connected to the same line. My oldest is in the bedroom. It's from the sixties or early seventies. Of the others, I suspect one is from the eighties, the other the early nineties. The one in the kitchen has a separate answering machine attached. That's it. No cell/mobile phones for me. I find the idea that I can be reached anytime anywhere repellent. I know I'll eventually have to get a cell /mobile device as some point, when I reach a stage of feebleness that requires constant ready access to emergency services.

As to phone usage....I use mine to set up and monitor medical and other appointments, one-off emergency calls such as reporting a power outage, receive incoming calls (moslty telemarketing), and once in a blue moon call my brother. That's pretty much it. Oh... I call in my real-property tax assessment once a year. I used to call in the check my work schedule but since retiring don't have to worry about that. I don't think I've placed a long-distance call, other than 1-800 numbers, in a good many years.

Truth be told, I could happily live without a phone of any sort were they not deemed necessary for modern existence.

Upgraded in December after my 2 year contract was up, so nearly 2 months old, i don't use it a lot, but it's there whenever i need it.

My phone's about a year-and-a-half old, and I hope that as a smartphone that it holds up since I don't feel like replacing or 'upgrading' it as often as is supposed to be necessary, seems wasteful to me.

I don't own a phone.
