How 'old' is your character?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 1:35 pm

So I've been thinking about my Main character lately, I've had him for a long time, but I was wondering how long ya'll have had your little avatars for.
For Rythe, he is in his mid-50's and it is Sun's Dawn 21 3E435, he stepped out of the Imperial Prison 544 days ago, completed 105 quests and finished the Main Quest on Morning Star 29.

Depends which character. I have played so many. My most recent one, Athnaur, can hardly be 25. My oldest one, Eridor, must be nearing his 30's.

Not long anymore due to reinstalling after a cletch, but their start ages were.

Osmundas: about 35.
Ash'khailia: around 27.
Annna: the same.

Fall from Grace: as a Tanarii ( demon ) who can tell, but she looks late 30's early 40's, which is what the slider was set at roughly.

I'm a few months into my second play-through. I used the same avatar, an elderly Nord warrior, for both.

Buffy was born Rains Hand, the 19th, 3E 415 under the sign of the Mage. She spent her 18th birthday in the Imperial Prison. She is now almost 20 years old, level 20 (her top design level) and has played about 530 hours.

Camarilla just turned 19. I haven't sat down and figured out how the calender system works in Oblivion, so I have no fancy birth date. She's the 9th of her parent's 10 kids, so her birthday, oddly enough, happened to be on the same day as 3 of the others. :whistling:

It seemed best to me she started young, inexperienced and new to the world of adventuring as she is my first Oblivion character and we're trying to figure life in Tamriel out together =)

I can't calculate the exact D.o.B in the TES Calendar, but my main character is in his mid-thirties.

One of my Morrowind characters was in her mid-fifties when the game began. http://morrowind4kids.com/pseronwyrd/Screenshots/Salas%20Thurja.jpg an ex-Dark Brotherhood assassin who had once been in line for a leadership position but who was sidelined by a rival. Sick of dealing with political infighting within the organization, she left the Dark Brotherhood. The Night Mother saw this as a personal betrayal and retaliated by framing Thurja for murder. When the Emperor pardoned Thurja The Night Mother, enraged that her plans had been thwarted and also paranoid that Thurja might reveal secrets, sent wave after wave of assassins to Vvardenfell to kill Thurja. Eventually Thurja traveled to Mournhold for a showdown.

This was a very fun character to play. I'd never played an older character before. Playing a character burdened with a long, haunted past was a very different experience than playing a young character. It added a new dimension to many quests. I've often thought I'd like to try a similar character in Oblivion.

Exactly how does the calender work? Looks like some space log to me...

Haydeh "Hand of Night" was born on 4 Dey, 1363 - a Seshhanbeh.

As of today - 26 Mehr, 1389, a Doshanbeh - she is yet to complete 26 years of age (suspended in tech-limbo for a while)..

It's not really too different from the Gregorian calendar: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Calendar

Ok so it's pretty simple, but what does the 3E prefix to the year do?

That's the Era. I think new Era's start after major events, like the 4E starts after the Oblivion crisis.

My current character is only 20 days into the game. No idea how old she is; I've never really given it any thought for any of my characters. Can't say how many days played I've had on older characters as I had put the game away for a year or so. My max would probably be somewhere around 2 months real time (not 2 months of actual play time, obviously).

I just ignore the calender and use my characters level as it's age. (Though I don't start doing that until level 18

Tetsu is currently 16, born on the 21st of Evening star,3E417.
Hopefully, he will survive long enough to celebrate a birthday. Haven't been able to do that for any other character.

Anyone know what the birth date -> birthsign relationships are? I.e. once you've set your birthsign, what date ranges that gives you for birthdays? It would be nice to RP a birthday celebration when appropriate.

As for characters, for some reason all my girls are young and the men are older. I don't believe I've taken any of them into 3E435 yet, but then I don't sleep or wait much - not into RP'ing sleep, and I prefer to go do something else rather than just kill the time in situ, especially for long waits like the "Shade of the Revenant".

There's a book that tells you the months for each birthsign, I can't remember what it's called though.

Yes.

Here is how each birthsign lines up to a TES month: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Astronomy#Constellations

And here is how each Nirn month lines up to the earth calendar: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Calendar

My character for example, was born in Rains Hand (April). She was therefore born under the sign of the Mage. Hope that helps! :)

Edit: Oops, ninja'ed by Alecto above with another fine resource.

UESP has http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Calendar telling which months have what amount of days(even what real world month it is equal to, like First Seed equals March) , and the book http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:The_Firmament, will tell what 12 of the 13 birthsigns correspond to. Serpent sign characters can choose any day. I think. Not sure how that one works.
EDIT: Heh, I got ninja'd, twice :P

My Breton assassin, Kain Nightwatch, is 23. He was born on the 30th day of Evening Star, which is on the day when the Old Life festival is held.
My Breton priest, Kiva Lionheart, is 20. She was born on the 1st day of Rain's Hand, which is on the day when Gardtide is held.

LInara is about 19, give or take a year, and I've played her for about 53 in-game days.
