how playable will Fallout 4 on the release day?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 11:33 pm

Be*

I've preordered it and I'm concernd about the quality(or lack of) of gameplay(bug, crashes wise) since the initial experience is the most impprtant one imo.

Pretty sure that people who get it weeks later will have a better experience but for us who will be playing on the day of release;

how "broken" do you expect it to be compared to the last games?

Each Bethesda game (New Vegas notwithstanding, developed by Obsidian) has had a more stable launch than the last game. This doesn't say that much, considering where they started (you literally couldn't beat the main quest in Daggerfall before the first patch), but hopefully it's a trend that continues with Fallout 4.

If I'm being optimistic, I'd say the game will be very playable, and our saves won't get completely screwed (they emphasized they wanted to prioritize fixing save-breaking bugs), but it'll still be bumpy and just weird.

I would hazard a guess that it will be very playable.

Bethesda has been making fairly solid business decisions over the last 5 years and capitalizing on the success of Skyrim quite well. Acquiring good developers, IPs and ensuring their releases are properly supported also helps. Given that trend, I'd say this should be their most stable release yet. They don't want to reacquire or reinforce their reputation for buggy games. This is all assuming they have good long-term business sense.

However, it is Bethesda Gaming Studios that is making the game. Sometimes they get a little too ambitious for their own good. They could find out that their system that is awesome and super cool is actually too big for the scope of their game and actually need to tone it back. Radiant AI system anyone?

To be safe, I'd say wait a few months. But honestly, I think they won't pull the same crap as many other studios have been lately. There is always a chance though.

Waiting a couple of months would be hell...
Not to mention that I'd probably spoil the story by watching youtube gameplay

I really hope they test it out as much as possible

Should be fine other than the occasional floating tree or object. Also, I'm guessing that town building will be broken on launch.

Skyrim was pretty much solid since launch (at least for me) and consider Beth already stated they restructured there bug fixing methods to make it more effective, Im confident any eventual bugs will be of a very minor kind.

I'm not really worried. I don't really remember having many issues at all with Skyrim and Fallout 3, let alone game breaking ones. I'll probably wait a week or two, no more.

New Vegas is the only Fallout game I played on release day, and I had a blast. Didn't really notice it being that much more buggy than Fallout 3.

So maybe I'm just tolerant, or maybe people are really sensitive to bugs. Either way, I bet it'll be just fine for me and there will be a lot of complaining from others, to be honest.

I never had many problems with Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim which i all got at launch. A few crashes, and i had to tune the Ini file in FO3 for it to stop crashing. Other than that they have all been fairly stable releases, and i expect Fallout 4 to be much better. It always boils down to what you can tolerate, and how sensitive you are to minor issues etc. I normally don't care about small things in game that are bugged, alot of crashes can ofc be annoying.

Should be perfectly fine.

I'm not expecting anything game breaking, but side content is always vulnerable.

as my luck would have it, usually if there is a bad bug, I never find it myself, or it's patched by the time I get to it.

The luck of the Irish.

Probably depends on your setup. Are you updated to the latest Windows Updates? The latest video and other hardware drivers? Then it will likely run okay. One caveat - do you have the "latest and greatest" hardware? A recently released processor, video card, or whatever? Then you might have problems. Having the newest tech is frequently, in my experience, a cause of problems. The developers really don't have much time to check for problems with the newest tech out there,

I expect a few bugs on launch, and a few people who can't even get the game to play right (usually people with very new hardware), but most people I expect will have no major problems at launch. I expect that settlement building will be no more, or less, bug-ridden than weapon modding.

But we will see. Honestly, I am torn between worrying that Bethesda got too ambitious with FO4...and being happy that they are spending so much time on bug-fixing and polish.

The majority of bugs in their games tend to be related to quests, scripting and AI and not really anything hardware related or stuff like that causes crashes. So basically you probably won't crash if at all but you might bump into a few bugs when playing through the game but nothing too serious.

I expect it to be fully playable. There haven't been many total game breaking bugs in past games and even those took a few days for people to start stumbling upon.

As with most games.. you can pretty much guarantee a freeze or a crash if you play the thing for any lengthy period of time. Best way to avoid frustration with crashes is to keep plenty of permanent and rotating saves. I just get into a habit of saving. I'm sure they'll have some sort of rotating autosave feature like skyrim did. (that saved my ass a few times.) Hopefully they'll have even worked in a quick save for consoles.

Bigger bugs in past games have usually occurred during heavily scripted events such as story missions or side missions..and for the most part.. not until later into the game. My play style seems to work well with avoiding these bugs as I tend to stay away of story in favor of exploration. By the time I get to where the bug was, it's been fixed. It also helps to come to the forums every day and read bug reports.. if people start claiming something is messing up their game, just avoid that and do other things in the game until that thing gets fixed.

The only bugs I remember in skyrim were 1. crashes, 2. couldn't get a woman to leave a cave without shouting her out of the cave, 3. a broken quest pointer for the bards college that wouldn't go away and 4. some random quests stuck in the log even though they had been completed. .. All in all, pretty minor stuffs for such a big game.

They've been doing nothing but bug testing since the game was announced. When millions of people play the game all at once they will find bugs that were missed. That's just the nature of building an open world with this much player freedom.

If you want to wait for a Steam sale then that's ok.

I played Skyrim on release and the only bug I can remember running into was the coffin one. So I'm hoping for a good launch.

Skyrim was more stable at launch than it is now...

So I'm more worried about Beth patching up their game with a rubber band.

I never really experienced any bugs that would keep me from playing on day one. the most issue I have had with fallout and Skyrim was the occasional freeze on the 360 and PC.
