How power armor (and flashlights) might work

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:43 pm

One thing I still haven't figured out is what the 'Spot' on the HUD refers to. It may indicate that a headlamp is installed, or that one is on, although I would expect 'Lamp' to be used in that case. That area may be reserved for listing attachments.

i agree with u that PA looks much more like what its meant to be, but considering theres even an animation for the player to get into his armor, i don't understand if the player will take it in his inventory like just a piece of armor ( what i want ) or if it will be like some kind of juggernaut kill streak like in COD ( i quite don't know how to say that hope its understandable). I like that the armor looks a hell more tanky and the new HUD inside the armor, but i don't want it to turn into sth like a vehicle that i need to summon when in trouble.

In previous fallouts i was able to do anything with my PA on, even sleep. Will we have the same freedom with the new one. There my doubts

i love the new power armor and i like how its looking like some thing like a vehicle were it opens up and you step inside. i also really like the hud when you have it on.. so i hope we can call in a vertibird to drop off our power armor where ever we are at if that's how its gonna be.

So the power armor in Fallout 4 actually matches up with the lore of it literally being a human-sized tank. I'm all for that, that's awesome.

Yeah, that's the bit that has me stumped. How are they going to handle situations where you're out in the middle of nowhere and the PA runs out of gas? I almost want to say it'll just be something we pack up and put into our inventory. Nothing really unusual for the game universe when we can lug around about 4-5 suits of PA in our inventory :)

As far as performing certain actions? I don't think you'll be sleeping in it. Think of it like werewolf/vampire lord forms from Skyrim and how limiting those forms were. You also won't be sneaking in it anymore.

I wonder if Pip-Boy functions (aside from VATS, which we've seen in use) be usable while in power armor. It looks like the armor covers it up, and the HUD changes when in it.

yes very much so way more lore freindly than past beth fallouts

also i would assume power thing is balenceing thing there prob ways craft your own power cores/cells not too mention repairing the armour will take work as looks like you can't carry it in your back poket .

as for be able use it indoors i think that will happen its not much bigger than a super mutant prob almost same size and you can find super mutants everywere.

biggest thing im pumped for is that power armour wearing freinds/foes will not be push overs like last two games.

Almost close on the T-51b. The power supply is suppose to last for more then a thousand years. So that pretty much destroys any idea of needing to refuel for T-51bs. Iirc the T-51bs also come with a urine-recycling to hydrate soldiers as well as a built in air conditioner. I think I may be wrong and that may only be for the enclave power armor but I can't remember.

edit: Yup, just found it.

"Additionally, like the T-51b power armor, it includes a recycling system that can convert human waste into drinkable water, enhancing survival and an air conditioning system for comfort"

So yea, the T-51b is not only strong, fuel efficient but also offers a soldier a level of comfort.

I like the idea that the power armor detects the pip-boy and integrates it with the display and hub. I hate wearing power armor and having my pip-boy cover up a good part of my arm.

I got the information from the Wiki, so no wonder my numbers were off. Haha. Good to know though.

Or I could be wrong xD but it really doesn't matter as it running out of fuel won't happen in our character's lifetime. I imagine one refueling needed and then boom, works infinitely for the rest of the game.

On flashlights one thing I do hope is they don't do video game flashlights where it's just this small beam but it functions like an actual one, modern flashlights are pretty powerful things, I don't want dead space grade stupid flashlight.

Also maybe let us exchange flashlights for night vision and thermal vision. Would make sniping fun.

I would actually expect flashlights to be more like something from the 80's. So, potentially powerful, but that power would be linked to size. The fallout universe doesn't have LEDs, so something akin to most other games would actually be appropriate for a handheld or head mounted lamp in fallout.

I am not sure if you can keep the armor this early in the game. Bethesda always made power armors available late in the main story of the game, using the "Training" idea. I suspect the protagonist who is a veteran might already have the training required to operate a power armor. However I am curious how you'll handle the total usage of these armors. If you can pick them up, if you can use them to explore certain areas and so on. We need more information.

Now that is something that i would like, if works like being a werewolf like in skyrim i might like it. I still want to take it in my backpack, lol even if it isnt sensible.

Maybe they should include sth like not letting the player change armour in middle of a fight, that way they could make the animation realistic. (Im sad i wont be able to sleep with my PA on XD, that was a deal breaker)

I've seen a lot of concern over freedom of use for power armor. It is a concern but I honestly think it could work out better if utilized properly. I would love to see high level areas in the game that would almost need it even at max levels. I'm not saying you need to walk it everywhere you go. You just call in back up from your pip boy. A vertibird drops your armor at the designated LZ and it is time to kick ass. I feel it gives the suit much more significance.

Plus I can't wait to Jump out of the Vertibird with a suit of power armor on. Here is to hoping we can control those flight paths.

if you can control the flight paths i don't really see the need for fast travel any more. cause if you think about it when ever you fast travel you pass up a lot of stuff in a sense. but if your hanging out the side of a vertibird and say your going from you home to Boston and say you see some thing really interesting along the way you can either have them land or if your in your power armor you can just jump out. then after your done with that area you get back in the virtibird and continue to you original destination.

I don't mind the fast travel though. Typically I use it when I want a quick play before work or something similar. Honestly in BGS games there is to much to see and explore to want to fast travel everywhere. Not really any other games that play that way. Just lots of pretty space with zero interactivity.

I think we won't be able to fit a whole power armor in our infinite invisible backpack anymore, only the parts and will have to change in and out at designated spots(like the point in the quest or the garage, it probably will be a building option in the settlements),which would a nice way of balancing it combined with not being able to repair it anywhere, which would seem likely because the repair option for single parts is in the customization menu at the power armor stand in the garage.

I wonder how many types of PA we will have? As far as we know from the gameplay; there will be 4 if I am correct.
