How to Put the Consumer at Ease

Post » Fri Jun 18, 2010 6:28 pm

Hello,

After reading the majority of topics and responses from the Staff and Consumer's alike, I have found a way to restore peace between both sides. I know the developers are working hard to let everyone return to the "Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland" of "Fallout: New Vegas"; but noticeably the relationship between the two have become strained. To the staff of Bethesda and Obsidian, keep the consumer updated on the progress of the patch. The easiest way to do this is by the developers going on "Twitter", and "Tweeting" [occasionally] when they have fixed a bug, or made an improvement. Keeping a dialogue will restore the faith of the consumer, and improve the overall morale of the community.

What Do You Think? I Look Forward to Reading the Responses From the Staff & Users Alike.

I can't understand why Bethesda is one of the very few companies that can't do this.

Bungie and BioWare have regular updates on anything that is coming out for the game but Bethesda can't just have someone spend 30 min to put an announcement out regularly to say what has already been fixed in the update and give a scheduled ETA

I have been ranting bout their lack of communication for a month now. No use bothering they won't change a thing. Only thing to do is really organize some sort of boycott on their products. Money talks..

They only say the same thing over and over again, "Final Touches" & "Final Stages" so I think Twitter would just be a waste of time. However it would be nice to know if they have even submited it to Microsoft for Xbox Live Cert.

Don't hold your breath. Both Obsidian and Bethesda have demonstrated many times that they simply don't give a [censored] about their customers once they have their money. Expect to see more false promises as the DLC date approaches, only to discover that the DLC supposedly contains the game fixing patch, but it unfortunately adds many more game breaking bugs. At this point they will restart their previously stellar customer misdirection program with talk of another "soon to be released" game fixing patch that will never actually eventuate, but will be talked about by Gstaff until the release of the 2nd DLC. Then repeat process for further DLC.

I would REALLY love to be proved wrong here, but Bethesda/Obsidian don't seem to be too worried about customer service now that they have all that money from the sales of a deliberately prematurely released game that is STILL horribly broken.

This is somewhat off-topic but relates to how to put consumer at ease. Some of you guys know that Black Friday just passed almost 2 weeks ago. And Amazon had a ps3 deal where they offered uncharted 2 GOTY, pixel jumper, and karate kid BD with a ps3 160gb. After they shipped the ps3s they send a massive email saying the publisher made a mistake and its just the Uncharted 2 "standard edition" and not GOTY. They offered a $10 Promo discount on pre-orders that expires 12/31/10. Obviously that wasn't gonna cut it. So people complained and so on, guessing they asked for their money back and so on. Yesterday i got an email from amazon saying they are sorry for the confusion and offered ALL the addon's to the uncharted 2 FOR FREE, basically all the stuff that was on the GOTY(game of the year). So if any of you think that companies aren't capable of offering free downloadable's, you are mistaken. SO Bethesda/obsidian, might be waiting to release the patch and give the DLC content for free. It might happen, but to point out dev, programmers, supervisors, managers even ceo, this is how its done to please a consumer!! So relax guys, they will do something, if they don't it will be reflected once they release the DLC content.

I AM NEVER BUYING BETHESDA AGAIN... NEVER EVER!

I don't care that Fievel sings a really cute song about never saying never, I mean it... NEVER! I will never, ever, ever, never buy a Bethesda game again.

I would return this coaster if I could get my money back, but since I can't I have to keep it and hope they fix it. But that feeling of helplessness I'm feeling over not being able to do anything about getting stolen from will stick with me for life.

There's another thread where a guy says he thinks the game is too far gone to be repaired and I'm starting to believe him. Bethesda should give us all our money back. Or we should all start a class action lawsuit against them. We sue for the cost of the game and all the wasted time put into the game.

I think that's the best route. I'm going to look into it.

There will be no class action lawsuit. 1) no law firm would take this 2) the game, for everyone, would have to be completely unplayable...like a black screen for vast majority as soon as game attempts to boot 3) if its a solo case, no lawyer wants 30 percent of the 60 bucks you might not win. 4) I'm quite sure you don't have a lawyer and never even discussed with one of such a law suit.

The game isn't a 'coaster'. It works quite well for many people despite a good deal of bugs. If your game doesn't work at all and its consistent, I doubt its actually a software problem. It might be your xbox then or maybe scratches on your disc from improper care. Yes, my game crashed a number of times. Yes, there's sometimes radscorpiions buried halfway in terrain walking on air. Yes, I'm locked out of strip unless I take monorail, but I also have over 80 hrs of play so far and despite some inconveniences, game is definitely playable. Just wait for the patch and stop crying. We know there's no lawyer huddling over your monitor right now plotting restitution with you

Ok I think to put it bluntly...there is NO way to put the consumers at ease any more. Bethesda/Obsidian have WAY missed the chance for that. The game released Oct. 19th and was found to be largely unplayable the day after release. It has now been almost 2 months and at least for 2/3 of the systems the game is played on there still exists massive game-ending bugs. On November 5th (close to a month after release) the following was posted in this thread (and probably also in the PS3 thread i would assume) "We’re currently running final testing and certification on a comprehensive patch for all three platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), so we’ll have something available in the coming weeks." then on November 15th (just 4 days shy of 1 month from release) we get a second post stating "Wanted to update everyone on the status of the game updates/patches. We're working on the final touches for PC, 360, and PS3. Once they're available, we'll let you know".

First off it wasnt an update in any form seeing as how it said the EXACT same thing they said 10 days earlier....final stages....we will let you know more soon. This has been the only real contact Bethesda/Obsidian has made in regards to the supposed patch that will fix all these god-awful problems and finally make the game playable (like it should have been on Oct 19th. Right now we are what...about 15 days away from the announced release date of F:NV first DLC and STILL no idea when a patch will be released except for a very bland and uninformative message from almost a month ago that they were doing the final touches (apparently not very final....) I am sorry but there is no way that they can really put their players at ease now. They have waited too long and had WAY too little contact with their players in regards to all these issues to try and hope to fix things. I honestly believe that there is a large number of people that will no longer pre-order (or 1st day purchase) a Bethesda or Obsidian game due to F:NV, for me at least this does include if/when they ever release another Elder Scrolls game, even if they decide to scrap the current engine and use a new less buggy one. I also plan to stress to each and every one of my friends NOT to pre-order or first day purchase any of their games and I think everyone else should do the same. I figure if they see a massive drop in their pre-orders and early sales then they might finally get their thumbs out of their asses and maybe treat their fans/players/consumers better then they have with F:NV.

wow, Bethesda really!?!?! ...... is your PR on vacation? i will wait for the patch all next year if i have too, but not even a sorry or here's some compensation for your troubles? *sigh* i don't know if you can fix the relationship you have with your customers now!!! alot of this anger could of been avoided if your PR did their damn job and smoothed things over with their customers and toss us a report on the patch NOT when its coming out, BUT just a hey we are working on this, this and this, but this is holding us back right now...... anything!!! its soooo easy but hell NOOOOOO! also someone should be fired after announcing the DLC before fixing this game with a much needed patch thats a huge epic PR fail and just sad :nope:

I played New Vegas for 10 hours over the first three days I had it. In that time I had 5 complete crashes, A.I. bugging all over the place, piss poor performance, broken quests, then on top of that I get an error when loading my saves. Back then I was annoyed that I'd have to wait two weeks for a patch. It's nearly been two months now...

Oh yea, the game is playable... I just don't know who would want to play it with these kind of flaws that, for me, completely cripple the entire experience.

Trust me there are law firms out there that would easily take on a class action lawsuit...and yes, the game is unplayable, you never know when it is going to freeze, crash or just not load a save file...unplayabel....

Yeah i think the reason they have not said they are at fault is for legal reasons.. if we could prove that they sold an unplayable game then they can get sued.

the DLC glitch is the game breaker.

I'm going to wait before downloading any up dates. A matter of trust kinda thing. Already am thinking I wasted the money and time to be frozen out and save issued off Fallout NV so downloads are not going to be something jumped at without knowing if they wont blow my 360 up first. I will wait now before trying seeing how the release went down hill and all. Maybe I can salavage a little bit of that money and time before I throw the game disk out? Doubt it at this time. Trades are not being taken, they cant give this game away now. Best thing is trash it when finished playing if one can ever get it to work. Wait a couple of years then get a updated polished working copy {maybe}. Depends on if this game company is still up and running and doesnt give up on the game. Doubt it thou if they put junk like this out.

With new content being released soon for this game, it will never be purchaced. No interest in giving more money for the present experiance of crashes and save issues. Not worth it to me anymore even if given away. Gonna use the micro points for Bungie or some other game with new maps and content.
Sorry about that.

Not sure why anyone would want an endless stream of "we're working on it" messages. I think a more appropriate form of placation would be an update on the website, like in the stickied thread about updates. Sort of like the one they posted 2 days ago about the patch being submitted and they'll let us know when it's available for download.

i agree but it wont happen. you would think since the release of the game all the posts asking for an update that they would say something, anything except 'well let you know' and 'in the coming weeks'. perhaps theyre not as smart as they think.

let me just add:

the lack of customer service (yes we are the customers beth!! we pay YOUR bills!!) really makes me feel like im being crapped on. oblivion, fallout 3 buggy yes but not this bad and i dont think it was handled this badly. really makes me think twice on who i give my money to. sure, no one else is going to make these games i wanna play but this, THIS!, is not worth it! hopefully the next game people buy from them will be used so that it will hurt them when they cant pay thier bills. perhaps then, they will think twice. they should know how lucky they are that thier games are so pupular sell very well but they should learn what customer service means and appreciate those that pay thier bills!!!!

He's not asking for updates that are 3-4 weeks apart. He's wanting updates that are constant. It's getting annoying how it doesn't seem the moderators or admins are not reading some of the threads posted. :-\

The latest update is 10 minutes old. We're trying to provide updates whenever we have substantial information to share.

Again, we're shooting for next week on 360. As there's more to share, we'll post here in the forums

To fix relationship?
It is quite easy in theory:
1) fix bugs
2) issue apology
3) give one of the planned DLCs for free. Having the price being dropped and having angry customers is way way more financially destructive than the cost of a DLC pack

Now it is. Before, it was not. It doesn't matter if it's substantial information or not. We want feedback. Even if it's "Hey, we're starting the update" or "Okay, we found the glitches out. Here's what was found."

We're being updated because finally, we're getting an update overdue.
