How to retexture

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:57 pm

Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knew of a link to a beginners retexturing guide. I have Photoshop, DDS plugins, Nifskope, and BSA commander. If you could help that would be great, thanks

Thank you Qawsed Asap for the links, they did help.

But after following the instructions i have come across another problem, when i retexture the armor that i am doing, the ground object works fine, but when i go to put the armor onto an NPC the armor doesn't work. it is like the armor, which is a cuirass, lays down on the ground with the ground being the top of the legs. I am trying to figure out if i need to orient the mesh in Nifskope or if I am simply doing something wrong. BTW i am doing all the steps found the Morrowind Reskinning Tutorial. If screenshots or anything else can help i will be more than happy to provide.

You cannot use the Ground mesh for the same mesh that you wear.
Armor is made of Body Parts, and you have set up the appropriate Bi-Ped Object and Male/Female Armor slot for the armor.

If you're just using vanilla armor, then this is simple. Look how Bethesda does it, and it should make sense for you.

Ok, I understand about the body part meshes, i just don't know where to find them, nor how i could make them. I have searched the CS cd data files but could not find any of them, the only ones i found are for the ground meshes

As for vanilla armor, could you tell me what that is, sorry very early modder.

The Body Part meshes are under the "Body Part" tab in the CS.
They are the armor/clothing meshes that the character "wears" over top of their body.
Look at the info of a piece of armor and you'll see which pieces it uses.
Example: the Bonemold Cuirass uses...
Biped Object->Chest
Male Armor->a_bonemold_cuirass_c (that's the name of the mesh)

Vanilla means "made by Bethesda" in other words, part of the original game. As opposed to something made by a modder.
So if your just re-texturing vanilla armor, you can use the same meshes that Bethesda used. (and then add your new texture to them as well)

Ok, the body part tab i knew about, sorry for that mix up. what i was wondering is that when do retexture a vanilla mesh, the dragonbone cuirass whith my texture in nifskope and then save it. This is the ground mesh correct? now do i need to make do another retexturing for the bi-pedial body part, and if so where do i find that mesh?

Thank you for your help

Yes, you need to retexture the Body Part mesh too.

Double-click on the cuirass in the armor list, and the window that opens will list all the Bi-ped parts and meshes used by that armor, usually just one.
What you need is the mesh listed under Male Parts... and then retexture it just you did the ground mesh.

The Female will usually be blank. That's ok, the female section is there if you want the mesh to appear different on females. (Most armor looks the same regardless of six.)
