Spells, bribes, threats, or simply being nice.

No wheel of persuasion though, and no cutscenes for stuff like threatening. I should be able to draw my weapon while talking to NPCs (providing there are no guards around) which should suffice as a means of intimidation.

As far as I can tell, it seems possible the entire game will have no cut scenes.

Which would be insanely ambitious if they pull this off.

Does anyone actually know how we do increase disposition in Skyrim?

I never really liked how you could buy peoples friendships in Oblivion.

I think being able to bribe them with special items/gifts would be cool though.

Blackmail and vocal threats might also be a good way to do it.

I believe the Playstation magazine said that there would be dialogue checks, like in Fallout 3. I would assume that there would be no more disposition, judging from that and from the gameplay we've seen.

Yeah and they have different personalities so people react to threats and stuff differently :)

Todd mentioned a couple times that Radiant Story quests take into account which NPC "likes" you, etc., but this could have more to do with whether you completed a quest for them previously, whether you stole something from them, or killed their husband, etc.

I have to say I'm in favor most of those, the persuasion wheel or whatever it was called was really ineffective in my opinion.

Yes its like Fallout now, it was mentions in more other previews as well, I really liked FO checks, not only for speech but for only skills as well, it made all skills more usefull.

well, I assume since we can have an effect on the economy (not much, just a "light touch" as todd mentioned) , if your actions boost the prosperity of a certain village, I assume that the people there will be pleased to have you around.

It's easy to see how this would work for quest related NPCs, or for non-quest related NPCs whom you'd done something bad to. But what about improving your relationship with a non-quest or faction related NPC? How might that work?

Obviously there are things like racial relations and Speechcraft value. But these are too broad to capture more specific aspects of your relationship with an NPC. It seems like there should be some way of improving your relationship with a non-quest related or faction related NPC, and some good way of knowing when your relationship has gotten better or worse.

Didn't Todd say that if an NPC kid "likes" you he will pick up your sword if you drop it?

Maybe there is more to the disposition of each Skyrim clan than just the bounty level. You might have a sort of reputation in each of the nine holds.

Right. I guess what I'm asking is: what do you have to do for that kid to like you?

I agree that there are quite general mechanisms for doing this: reputation, faction membership, bounty, Speechcraft level, racial relations. But imagine two NPCs, both of whom have the same reputation, bounty, faction, racial relations to you. They are the same race, live in the same town, are members of the same faction, have the same responsibility, etc. Can those two NPCs differ in how much they like you? One way it seems they could is for you to steal something from one of them. But what about making them like you differentially without doing something bad to one of them? Maybe we can bribe NPCs. But what about other means of persuasion?

To my knowlege, if they like you, yes they'll try to return the item to you, or if they don't like you (an advlt in this case) may try to kill you with the sword.
