How should I getexperience Morrowind?

It's the only game in the main title series that I haven't played yet. I play Arena on PC and Skyrim on my 360 (yay for extremes! lol) rather regularly.

I've dabbled with Oblivion on the 360 but I just couldn't really get into it.

I've also dabbled with Daggerfall on PC but I swear that game is just so complicated... I can't even get out of the first dungeon because the controls are so confusing... but that's a topic for a different thread.

I have not played Morrowind at all. Mainly because I don't own it yet. And yet I often hear it is one of the best (if not the best) games in the series, and I would like to try it out.

And so my question is, how do you recommend I get it? Since it's 360 compatible, it would seem more 'complete' to play it on there, since it's where I have Skyrim and Oblivion. But, if it's quite simply overall a better gameplay experience on the PC, then I may want to go that direction with it.

What do you think? What should a Morrowind virgin like myself do? Which path should I take?

Morrowind is best played on PC, IMHO. The reason is the availability of Utilities and mods. Even if you want a totally vanilla experience, bug and engine fixing mods like the unofficial patch and the CodePatch make make going to PC worth it. In addition, basic upgrades to models and graphics are also easily installed like MGE-XE and better bodies and heads. If you want, you can go all out and replace almost all the meshes and textures too but it's not really necessary. The point is that you can do all these things if you decide to later plus you'll be able to use the new engine from OpenMW when it's released.

I recommend PC version, too. Console vs PC wars aside, fan-mad patches and fixes will make the game more pleasant, less frustrating and with fewer bugs even if you decide not to install content adding/changing mods.

As for the Steam or retail disc version, there's not much of a difference. If you decide for the disc version, just be sure to grab the version with both expansions (Tribunal and Bloodmoon). There are two quirks with Steam version. First, you'll have to re-date the game's files back to their original 2002 date (Morrowind mods and replacer textures rely on file dates for priority), the Morrowind Code Patch will do that automatically. The Steam version also doesn't come with Construction Set, the game's editor. Even if you're not going to make your own mods, it's sometimes a handy tool. There's a fix for that too.

Morrowind will run on virtually any PC you can find (I first ran it on a PC that was made in 1999). I don't see any reason not to get it on PC.
