I always liked to think of the Nords as the men of Rohan in Lord of the Rings. Hardy, mead drinking, battle hardened men. I don't necessarily like to think of them as just barbarians (i think orcs are the barbarians of the Elder Scrolls universe just as the dwarves are the barbarians of the Lord of the Rings universe). For example, in the scene in the beginning of Return of the King when they are all drinking to those that died in the battle for helms deep and celebrating, the only thing i could think of was the cheerful drunk Nords in Thirsk drinking nord mead.
Over all, what i'm saying is (the way i picture nords) a Nord should look just as natural wielding a bow and living off of the land as a ranger being equally as skilled in combat as he is in staying hidden, as he would just a drunk bloodthirsty barbarian.
I'm sorry for the lotr references (i'm just trying to relate my mental picture of a nord to something) but i always thought of Aragorn as a full nord, because imperials are mostly just good for nothing, corrupt pantywastes (like the steward of gondor). think about it, he's a badass when it comes to fighting things with his sword, but is equally skilled with a bow, he carries the knowlege to easily live off of the land, fighting is in his nature, and he has nothing but the best intentions which kind of brings me to this next thing... (and no more lotr refrences
)
Even though nords are generalized as uneducated and quick to kill, have you ever noticed (for the most part... there are always exceptions) that nords are the most light-hearted and loyal of all races? even though they can be ignorant, i always thought that whatever ignorance was present was born from their love of their homeland. and since their homeland is skyrim, i think their light-hearted, festive side can be brought out more in this game than the others since the nords have nothing to complain about, because the way i see it, there is nothing happier in all of tamriel than a mead drinking nord living it up in his home province of skyrim. but also if you think about it, since people grow and develop their nature, a nord who's nature is in adventuring and travel is perfectly content living off the land and never having the burden of having to be confined to one home, and these are usually the more open-minded, skilled, and educated nords. i really hope we see nords in a new light in this game. they are of course my favorite race.
and to all of those that like the idea of nords actually being ignorant barbarians, i'm not saying that a lot of them aren't. I'm just saying that i always saw that there is more nords, and they can a little bit more of a multi-talented race even though people might not give them credit for it.
oh and one more thing, and perhaps most important: BEARDS
i don't know if this makes sense, i just kind of put down whats on my mind, and i'm not going to proof read it haha.
