How Skyrim will start

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 3:51 am

I've searched the site and did not find any other topics so;

For those that don't know, I have found out how the Dragonborns adventure begins. This article contains a heap of background information on the story (no spoilers)

Wall of Alduin: http://media1.gameinformer.com/images/site/pages/esv/index.html?es=5#

To find this quote, you will need to read the last sentence of the very right part of the wall.
It states that "As Skyrim begins, a lone prisoner begins to learn that he may hold a similar power..."

Podcast:
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/podcasts/archive/2011/02/03/toddhowardse.aspx - Todd Howard confirms it here.

For anyone too lazy to listen to the podcast (like me), here is a summary of the podcast.

You start as a prisoner about to be executed but are saved by Esbern, the last of the Blades.

It was in one of the magazines. I'm too lazy to look it up, so you don't have to believe me.

Honestly that kind of contradicts the comment Todd Howard said about how you are "called" by the Greybeards in the game. Unless you are rescued by him and then let free to do as you wish.

That's how I would expect it to happen. Kinda like you didn't have to deliver the amulet to Jauffrey right away.

Yeah, if you're rescued by a greybeard, why don't you just begin your training with him right there? Doen't quite make sense. And if the civil war is already happening, it sounds like the main quest will be rushed, kind of l like how TESIV's mainquest felt rushed.

I believe it was in the first French magazine that published info on Skyrim, can't remember the name but I remember reading it and being really really ticked off that I did, not about starting as a prisoner, but the rest of the details that followed. Oh well, it did have a spoiler tag so I can't blame anyone but myself.

What Dragonbone said is true.

Spoiler
You start off as a prisoner about to be excecuted but Esbern saves you. Then you have an encounter with a dragon that confirms you are Dovahkiin. The Greybeards will contact you with shouts that rumble throughout the world, calling you to High Hrothgar. From there, you climb 7,000 steps up to the peak of the highest mountain. :grad:

That's about all we know so far. Check Game Infomer and IGN for exact quotes. ;)

Would be nice to know whether we have a long tutorial level that will play exactly the same each time (Oblivion, Fallout 3) or a couple of minutes of questions and answers and straight out in the world (Morrowind, New Vegas)

I hated the intro for New Vegas and Morrowind, it didn't feel right to me. In Oblivion and Fallout 3 I had a OH MY GOD feeling when leaving the sewers and vault. However, maybe a skipable tutorial will do.

My guess it will be like oblivion, though perhaps a bit shorter.

I really hope its a tutorial like New Vegas', because of the short amount of time. However, I agree with Dovahkiin that it did have an OH MY GOD type of feeling after leaving the sewers or vault, which they need in Skyrim.
