How do u start playing the game?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:21 am

Hello,

I was wondering how u guys playing this game from the beginning.

Like i have made a new char about 30 mins ago.
Followed the escape, (i am an nord but needed to follow the imperial and ended up at the blacksmith instead of that girl (where ive ended 3 times before as a nord))
So from here i go to the jarl, do the golden claw quest........ And then what u do?

Why i ask?
Becouse with my first character i followed the questline end ended up in a dungeon that was not beatable on lvl 4 (fighted for 4 hours and alot of quick loads later i came at the end, here i needed to fight a mage type and an big badass bot (golden color 3 a 4 times bigger then my character, 2 a 3 hits and dead)

Now i am in town and wondering what the best quest is to pickup first, so what quest line do u guys follow at the start of the game.
Do i just follow the voice(story) quest, or do i pickup something else to start with?

First, find a town. Take a walk.

Wander into the store in Riverwood and ask questions. The guy there needs help.

If you ask the taverner in Whitrerun for rumors she'll give you a tip on any local bandits that need seeing to.

Hang around a town and listen to conversations, might get a lead.

Talk to passers by on the road in the countryside.

Or check your journal and see what the game wants you to do, bang through the quests one by one, reach level 150 in 48 hours and complain the game has no content.

No need, thats the golden claw quest, u get it when u get the quest from the jarl. just go to dungeon from there and get the claw, u only need to return it back to him.

Ok so there isnt really a starting point beside the main quest for the dragon stone?

^^^that's what everyone is doing now isn't it?

lol, people getting upset for stupid reasons...

OP: Just wander around and do whatever you want. Explore some dungeons. That's the beauty of the game. There is no starting point really.

You can do quests, or you can collect items, or you can fight things, or you can treasure hunt, or you can break into homes and steal their valuables, or you can join a guild, or you can join a militia, or you can hunt for world walls, or you can dungeon dive, or you can kill powerful leaders, or you can hunt Dragon Priests, or you can buy a house, or you can explore and find new locations, or you can craft weapons, or you can create potions, or you can get a refund and play MW3.

It's a free-roaming game. You adventure, and by that I don't mean you proceed down the level being told what to do at every step, you pick somewhere you want to go and then you bloody well go there and see what happens.

What he said. There is no reason to do the quest for the Jarl of Whiterun right away. And yes, do talk to the shop keeper in Riverwood. I hate quests that start for no apparent reason. By talking to the shop keeper, you know what happened and why you are doing it. When you know what leads to what, you might decide to do things differently for access to certain items.

I try not to buy spells. I prefer to find spell tomes. I do smith for an advantage in armor and weapons. I also enchant.

This.

When I get Skyrim, I plan on going to Riverwood right away and doing the quests, but before going to Whiterun, I'm going to backtrack and swim out across the lake in front of the warrior stone that everyone in their "Let's Play" videos seems to ignore.
