How do straighten out my teleport?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:20 am

I've added a new home, using a copy of one of the existing ones, and attached it to a door I placed in one of the DC worlds. Everything works fine, I can travel back and forth. But on each side of the door, I end up facing at a 90 degree angle, not looking straight out like I should be. I've tried to set it up several times now but I always get the same thing happening. The interior was from a home that was facing south so I picked a door that was facing in that direction as well, so that rules that out. I did have to adjust the door on the z plane by 90 degrees in order to get it in the doorway, could that be the problem? If so, how can I get a closed door without screwing up the teleport function?

When you add a teleport property to a door, a large yellowish box with a little arrow should appear. The direction of the arrow indicates the direction the character will spawn in upon entering the new area. You could just rotate the box.

You have to turn the Teleporter Marker around. It's the tall yellow box with a pyramid of sorts on it. That pyramid is the direction you will face

If you can't see the teleport markers, toggle the M button. You should also re-finalize your navmesh after placing a teleport marker.

On the menu, go to VIEW - MARKERS this will enable/disable the teleport box if you cant see it.

OK, I've got it straightened out on the one side, I just adjusted my z axis after setting the teleport flag. But now when I enter the interior I'm facing the door. I can't seem to get a two-way teleport working where I'm facing out on both sides, I can only get it working in one direction. I see an arrow like thing on the teleport marker but it's only pointing in the one direction. And how exactly do I go about re-finalizing my nav-mesh?

OK, I got it. I'm now facing out on both sides. But what do I do about the nav-mesh? I don't seem to be having any problems with it and I'm not getting any errors. Plus the interior space is just a copy of an existing home, from Grayditch, and already has it's own nav-mesh. I've looked at the nav-mesh controls and did some reading on the Wiki about it but I'm kind of baffled about how it works. Also, how can I set the compass direction for an interior so I don't have to use areas that are already facing in a particular direction?

I think you need the Link option, not the teleporter flag.

There is a button on the navmesh toolbar, if you hover over it it will say 'finalize' . It looks like a red check mark. I'm not entirely sure, but when you finalize a navmesh with a new teleport marker, the navmesh triangle under the teleport marker will turn green. I think this has to do with placing NPCs into the cell when they use the teleport doors. I know it has no effect for the player.

There is an object called a northmarker, that when placed in a cell, makes the compass North point along the direction of the Northmarker, if that's what your asking. You can also align your cell pieces by placing the very first one and making sure its rotation is set to 0 on all three axes. Then adding pieces to this one will ensure your whole cell is aligned along the north/south east/west lines.

That is what I'm asking, thanks.

Yes I found that and pressed it but it didn't seem to do anything. Though I noticed the navmesh object in the Georgetown Origins cell had an asterisk beside it as if a change had been made.

That doesn't really apply to what I'm doing right now since I'm only using copies of existing homes. Specifically the ones in Greyditch and the one townhome in Georgetown. There's three townhomes in Greyditch facing north and one facing south. The one Georgetown faces east. Three of the Greyditch homes have identical layouts though so by using the north marker I now have 3 different floor plans to work with. Two are just reverse layouts though.

Is there a keyboard option for moving statics around in a space? I'm finding it to be a real pain trying to close up small gaps with just the mouse, I'm always over/under shooting my mark. I tried the arrow keys but the area just went right out the window.

It may not look like its doing anything, but the button will stay depressed while its working and pop back up when its done. There is also an indicator on the taskbar (the bottom margin) of the geck that should say something like 'building editor navmeshes' and then show a percentage. If you can see the red navmesh triangles, after you are finished finalizing, the one under your teleport marker will have turned green. That means it worked and is finished.
