How Tall Are We?

Post » Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:30 am

Either the average person is far larger than I estimated or going to a Bethesda Game Studios Convention would be a bad idea if I don't want to feel like a hobbit.

You're our hobbit mascot. Own it. Be proud of it :)

Just for a little side question from a worried wood elf, how much more can males grow if they have been 16 years old for about two months?

quite a bit actually

depending on your genetic history you could get significantly taller. My grandfather was very short, only around 5 feet throughout high school, then at 18 he shot up to 6 feet (!)

I believe it goes that only girls stop growing taller at sixteen, boys stop growing taller around twenty or twenty one.

Well if you can use "ninja" as a verb, you can so totally use "Assassin's Creed" as a verb... :whistling:

Well in that case; practically all nouns can be used as verbs.

I will Mass Effect you! (I will Effect you, Massively!)
I will Elder Scrolls you! (I will Scroll you, whilst an Elder person watches!)
I will Fallout you! (I will Fall, while asking you Out!)
I will Star Wars you! (I will wage War with you, and....erm...Stars!)

5'6'' short, male. I don't understand why, because my mom's 5'9" and my Dad is 6'3". I used to hold out hope that heredity would make me as tall as them, but since I'm 16 I'm increasingly worried that I'll be stuck where I am.

That, or "I will fall out of you.", i.e. "You'll give birth to me." :hehe:

You can't depend upon genes entirely. My dad's pretty tall, my grandfather was 5 '10 and my uncles were 5' 11 and 6 '1 respectively. I turned out to be 5 '8..

It depends where on Earth you are. When I went to Holland, every other guy was 6'. In South America, people are rarely above 5 '10. In America average male height is 5 '8. In Portugal it's 5 '5. (IIRC, not 100% sure.)

Arguably greatest basketball player of all time: Michael Jordan
Height: 6'6''

Possibly greatest in the NBA at the moment: LeBron James (I stress the possibly)
Height: 6'8''

Shortest player currently active in the NBA: Earl Boykins
Height: 5'5''
Is he good: no.

It's a sport geared for orangutans. What do you expect?

Im kidding, Im kidding! Don't crucify me! Atleast not yet..

Anyway, you proved my point by adding Michael Jordan into the list. Him along with Kobe Bryant (my personal favorite) are both 6 '6. If you watch a game, they usually stand out as the shorties. (Despite being huge people, outside the court). Most players are taller..

Honestly, I never thought height has anything to do with success.

Nor did I.
I also don't susbscribe to the notion that somehow, height predetermines your life's path.
Or that the taller one is, the better one is. Or the shorter. People just are.
I pretty much judge people on their personality and actions, not on heriditary characterisitcs no one has control over like height, weight, skin, hair or eye color.

Most guys over here are in the 5'9" to 6'0" range. For a New Yorker, I'm really tall.
