How is the community and atmosphere?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:28 pm

I have yet to buy the game, but am debating on it. I will either just buy it or leave it alone though seeing that I have no desire to rent any game. I just want to know what the online community is like though. I'm not buying it for the single player. I don't have any FPS's right now so just looking for a new one. Does it stay very populated? Have you noticed a downward trend in users playing? I have read LOTS of negative things about this game, but I have also heard lots of POSITIVE things as well. I'm not a big COD fan or anything of that nature and was actually a huge MAG fan until those servers started dropping in population. I kind of see Brink has being MAGish....popular for a few months then dying.

For the lovers of the game, can you tell me what you think of the online community and the atmosphere in general? I know I will get posts saying "Just find out for yourself" or yadda, yadda, yadda, but this is a forum if active players so if YOU think you have the time to give me some good honest input (pros and cons) I would appreciate it a ton.

I have friends who currently have the PC version and they say they have a blast with it. I have a PS3 so users with a console would probably be the best bet, unless there is a huge difference between the PC and consoles.

Right now it looks like I am leaning towards just getting it, but I can't do that until after work so until then I will look forward to what the community here has to say.

I'm on PS3, the majority of problems with the game are on XBox and certain PC setups (a few nVidia cards, and apparently a lot of ATIs have problems).

PS3 is pretty stable - and they've made the AI play a lot better since this weekend, so that's removed the big flaw the PS3 version DID have.

I am on X360 so I can't speak for the PS3 version. But aside from the laggy multiplayer (update should be out this week) the game is an absolute blast. You mentioned that you do not like the COD series so Brink might be right for you. Most of the negative reviews seem to come from COD fans. This game is NOT COD, and in my opinion that is a good thing. Brink has a huge learning curve, so if you get it, just stick with it, watch the tutorials, listen to the advice on the forums, don't give up, and Brink will reward you in return. Friggen love this game.

at present i could not recommend this game on pc. each patch makes things worse. wait a week and pickup in the bargain bin....

new patch makes this game even worse to play. SD = incompetent. they have till the end of the week else im getting a refund.

new sound errors on maps that were ok.
my metabolism keeps resetting back to 0 even if i dont use it
worse fps than before
maps just turning into spawn raqes
people vanishing infront of me

this game is a disgrace at the minute.

last SD title i ever buy

soooo pissed at the moment and i feel ive wasted £200 on a gfx card to play this game, really not a happy bunny.

xbox 360 has lost alot of players already. Most of the games I have been playing in have 1-2 other real people playing on my team. I like COD and I like BRINK so dont believe the misconception that COD players dont/wont like BRINK. Its a line that is meant to diminish from truth and make you believe that all the bad reports are just COD players that simply dont like this game because they like COD. Thats the most bogus BS, dont believe it. Also, dont believe the hype that is BRINK. If you are expecting to get what you have seen in all of the videos, you will be disappointed in the lack of overall content and storyline that was depicted. Its a fun game, could have been great, all of the problems and lack of over all content make the game fall far short of what was promised.

I have yet to buy the game, but am debating on it. I will either just buy it or leave it alone though seeing that I have no desire to rent any game. I just want to know what the online community is like though. For PC the multiplayer community is very active, plenty of servers full round the clock. I'm not buying it for the single player. I don't have any FPS's right now so just looking for a new one. Does it stay very populated? For PC yes. Have you noticed a downward trend in users playing? No, the opposite for PC. The game is team focused and objective oriented - that cant be overstated. If that sounds appealing to you then BRINK is a game for you.

I would say the PC side is still mixed - I think many players are still figuring out the game; it obvious when you are playing with people who think its some kind of TDM. All I can tell you is the PC side is very very active with loads of full servers.

I have friends who currently have the PC version and they say they have a blast with it. I have a PS3 so users with a console would probably be the best bet, unless there is a huge difference between the PC and consoles. Get the PC version, period.

Right now it looks like I am leaning towards just getting it, but I can't do that until after work so until then I will look forward to what the community here has to say.

The truth is that this title is an average game that doesn't do one thing particularly well. It is somewhat entertaining and
can be fun, but that feeling won't last much longer than an hour.

If you are going to pick it up for your PS3 then do not listen to the PC players. I'm serious. DO NOT listen to what they
have to say as it won't be relevant. They received a completely different game that actually shows a certain level of effort
and care from the developers and designers. Besides, the overall design of this game is truly made for PC gaming with a
mouse and keyboard. Especially when you're using SMART and you start shooting the weapons at lightning-fast targets.

There isn't much of a community as of right now and no matter what the patches and DLC bring to the table many have
abandoned this game on consoles and it's only a matter of time before the devs do as well.

If you see the game available for $30-40 then I'd consider giving it a go, as that is about what this game and its' lack of
content is worth. If you have the rig to play it then I'd defintiely pcik it up for the PC. But be forewarned, this game is similar
to the CoDs and Halos due to its' fast gameplay and the twitch-like reflexes that are needed to competitively play it, online
or off. So if you don't like those types of games then it may not be for you.

If other words, if you intend to play a FPS, play it on a PC. I couldnt agree more. If you want to squash mushrooms and race go-carts, stick to consoles.

in other, other words, dont buy a game that was made for the PC if you own a 360/ps3 cause you will get crap if you do. It wont be the same as whats being shown because they will have to degrade the game, from what you are being shown, to make it where you can play it because the developers arent going to put any effort into a port.

I can't talk much for the XBox version, and what I've heard makes it sound pretty bad, but on PS3, the game WORKS FINE.

STOP trying to say it's a shoody port from PC. The XBox version may have issues all the way round, but the PS3 version has LESS PROBLEMS THAN PC RIGHT NOW.

Only thing they got fixed before us was the AI trouble, and that's been improved on PS3 now as well.

I would call this the worst case szenario for Bethesda and Splash Damage. They did some thing that just made an awful and great game nearly dead, that`s sad.

@OP, I was a huge MAG fan too, it took up most of my free time from release until a few months ago. The Brink community is like the MAG community, except minus the horde of egotistical KDR-waving [censored] bags that made the forums unbearable... suprised I even stuck around there long enough to make it to OIC forum rank, with all the elitism and negativity.

Honestly, the worst we have here are debates about the story, how weapons work, or people crying because they don't like the game. And the occasional bit of console bashing... :P

EDIT: Tbh, if I had a decent gaming rig, I would have bought it for PC in a heartbeat rather than PS3. You just can't expect the same quality from a console version as the PC version. But if your computer isn't too crash-hot, and you don't think it's up to the task of running it well, then the PS3 version is still a blast to play and totally viable.

Playing on the PS3

Just played hours with a friend in England, me being in the United States, and we both did well at finding matches with a generous amount of people and competetive play.

Yes, there is lag at times, especially when someone with a bad connection joins, but I believe this could also be related to some areas of the world, even here at home, having sub par networking systems. Patch is underway regardless so we will see.

Graphics are fine. If you want to look at scenery, look out your window. I believe Gamestop did a system comparison if you are interested. I wont bother with a link because I think its irrelevant... and will spark a debate no doubt.

I enjoy this game a lot. Its different. But if you are looking for killstreaks, frag counts, or individual glory, this game will not be enjoyable for you.

Like I tell everyone who asks, rent it.

The people have been quite friendly and cooperative with trophy hunting and completing objectives during gameplay. Not much trouble with camping as there are few places to do it and even that requires team work.

I would recommend this game for at least a rental to anyone.

Honestly, I'd say buy it for pc if you have a pc that can run it. That is of course assuming you liked the idea of a fps based in teamplay. Obviously individual skill factors in to a great extent, but if you don't like playing with a team then don't get it. For ps3 it sounds like its working okay, I hear a lot more complaints about xbox, but I haven't played it on either system.

My honest suggestion for 360 is just don't. Hey they may fix everything in which case it will still be on the shelves, but as of right now i wouldn't buy it though.

Haha true true...

Idunno, I've often joined a friend's match and become a part of their fireteam, and plenty of times they have a friend and their friend's friend has a friend and we all get friendly... basically, to derive real quality from the online experience you have to start with some friends who actually play.
