How do the East Coast Super Mutants keep Producing?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 7:15 am

In Fo3, when we are in Vault 87, it shows us how the super mutants are all out of FEV, so how is there still so many of them? Have they found more or something?

You see, when a Super Mutant loves a human very much, it takes them back to a Vault, and covers them in FEV...

In all seriousness, the 87 Super Mutants have had 200 years to branch out of the Capital Wasteland. And considering the area's lower population and the depleting supplies of FEV, it's not unimaginable that they sent teams out way before the Lone Wanderer or Brotherhood of Steel ever emerged.

I do hope that Fallout 4 is set post Fallout 3, partially to see how Super Mutants have reacted to being displaced if the reason they're in Boston now is because they got run out of Vault 87.

Yeah thats probably what they did, send scouts out looking for new FEV but ended up establishing them selves in Boston.

I'd imagine that they've been sending out roving bands searching for new victims for decades prior too the Brotherhood's arrival, as REL_Dovahkin has stated. So the ones in Boston could very well have been in Boston since before the events of Fallout 3.

Though to be honest, I'm curious if they have some kind of 'leader', because their movements in Fallout 3 always struck me as being more organized than random groups just going out searching for prey. They had patrols, they reinforced their positions, they could maintain highly advanced weapons, they even understood that FEV is what allows them too "reproduce"; which honestly made me wonder if they had some kind of leader(s) who were similar too Fawks or Uncle Leo... but evil.

Tehy do mention that the mutants are searching for something near the Vault tech HQ so yeah they may have had groups go out looking for other vaults and bases to get more FEV. We never saw leadership for them so I guess it could have moved out of the vault...

Do we know offically that the Boston Super Mutants are from the Captial Wasteland....if not then they could be immigrants from the west coast, although you would think that west coast Super Mutants should be pretty rare by now.

there most likely will be some precious source of FEV in boston that the super mutants need desperately which caused them to migrate there. My guess would be something to do with all the advanced research done up there, ie. the Institute, ect. Maybe all the advanced research that MIT was doing up there spurred Vault tec to make a major facility up there, and maybe the US army had a research division. We know that Mr. House had connections and donated a lot to the Institute. So it's possible that there could be some FEV somewhere in boston. But that stuff has to run out eventually right?

According to the Vault Wiki, there are 4 known strains of FEV and ONE rumored strain. Bethesda owns the IP....they can plot device one of those to Boston or make up one a new (previously unknown) strain.

Now Super Mutant re-production is another matter....(in all honesty, I always considered them sterile since they apparently mutate into something asixual...or so we are told).

IIRC west coast super mutants have more reddish skin while east coast muties have yellowish skin.

I think after they got kicked out of vault 87 they went over to vault 108 and started cloning themselves. In all honestly, I could care less about the lore, I just want me some mutants in the game. So Beth could say that someone just discovered that super mutants were like plants and if you cut off a part of them and plant it in a radioactive vat it will grow into a new super mutant and wouldn't bother me any just so their heads exploded all the same.

Perhaps some of the BoS we see are MWBoS, who have super mutants in their ranks?

Knowing Bethesda, I wouldn't be surprised if they make it so it's The Master himself somehow surviving...

That's impossible. Bethesda have had characters and other references in their own games point out The Master being destroyed.

The Master was destroyed but that doesn't mean that something like him could never again be created. It wouldn't suprise me if the Institute had access to and experimented with FEV. Who knows what they could have created and unleashed with their scientific resources.

Mariposa Super Mutants don't become Behemoths, which are in FO4.

Vault 87 muties have a yellow tinge, indeterminate growth, and lots of stupid. Considering they were designed as super soldiers though, it's not surprising they still retain some tactical aptitude. Probably only s few certain lobes if their brains get screwed.

I'm sure the Institute has something to do with the local Super Mutant population. Something.

An Enclave project after Frank got exposed to FEV. He was special indeed.

Hopefully the Super Mutants in Fallout 4 are from the West. We should get some interesting stories from them. After the Death of the Master the Super Mutant Armies started moving East. That was several decades ago, over a century really. If they are a new type of Super Mutant... well that just means FEV was all over the darn place before the Great War.

I think Bethesda is just taking a page from Tactics, and having the Vault 87 super mutants flee from D.C. to Boston.

In The Pitt we learn from Media that she has no idea what super mutants are. However, the people of The Pitt do know of D.C., and The Commonwealth. If there existed multiple super mutant strains on the east coast, their existence would be far more common knowledge. Super Mutants are treated as the "regional special mutant strain" akin to how only The Pitt has trogs, and how the swampfolk are found only in Point Lookout.

Whats more is that Boston is MUCH farther from D.C. then The Pitt is, if this was just how far the super mutants has spread in 200 years, they should have reached The Pitt long before Boston. Not to mention Point Lookout is a mere 80 miles from D.C., and no super mutants were there either.

If Bethesda is going to have "fleeing" super mutants from DC in Boston... Then we pretty much have to ignore everything Bethesda told us about their version of Super Mutants. That they are dumb as dirt and stay very close to home. Even with Vault 87 destroyed (if it ends up being destroyed) they would be far to stupid to leave in any organised fashion to Boston if they leave DC at all. IMO they would just continue their search in the DC ruins and fight Lyons' people till they are no more.

I guess the door is open for a rare few semi intelligent super mutants such as Fawkes to be around that moved to Boston. Bethesda could just say that Fawkes type was more common then let on in Fallout 3  But I think that is just a weak premise to have DC super mutants in DC.

One or two from DC in Boston I could see but if Super Mutants are to be in the area in significant numbers, my hope would be they are from the West. A century is more than enough time to end up in Boston from California. They leave California because of the Master's Death and the Brotherhood of Steal and the rise of nations states such as NCR. Then leave the Midwest because of The MWBoS and with no real place to go they keep on moving East till they end up in Boston.

I haven't been keeping up on Fallout 4 news. I am just getting myself back into it. Do we have any info on this topic? Do we have images or other confirmation of super mutants in Fallout 4 or are we just assuming they will be in the game?

Except the Vault 87 super mutants were never portrayed as being that stupid. The game clearly shows them using tactics, building defenses, maintaining high tech weaponry, operating Vault computer systems, knowing that they running out of FEV, that FEV is important in making more super mutants, and understanding the importance of things like reinforcements. They are also shown to be fairly spread out from vault 87, especially when it comes to the area around D.C.It wouldn't contradict anything.

And yes, the E3 videos clearly show super mutants, including the Vault 87 only behemoths.

Maybe intelligence isn't the right way of describing their behavior. Something more along the lines of being more like an animal defending territory. They are also more aggressive than their West Coast counter parts.

I got to get myself caught up. My interest in Fallout 4 has been coming back over the last couple of days. :fallout:
