How is the gender of your baby determined?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:15 am

My bad if this has already been covered in a previous thread but I'm wondering if you choose play as the husband, will your child be a boy and if you choose to play as the wife, will your child be a girl? Or will your baby always be a boy regardless of who you choose to play as?

Since our child's appearance is based on our character's customizations, I think it would be cool if we could at least choose the gender of our baby since it is more than likely that we will meet our child (probably a teenager or young advlt by then) later in the game. Unless the baby always being a boy is a scripted part of the story for later, which I hope it's not.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I really hope the family dies inside the vault...

Also it's forced male

I hope not since they recorded over 13,000 lines of dialog. They could have easily recorded the same lines for the advlt version of our child with 2 different voice actors. Assuming we do indeed meet our child later in the game.

Lol, why? I think it would be cool to at least meet your child as an advlt. I know it's a Hollywood cliche, but I think it could work and even add to replay value. Especially if our child grew up to be a villain or an unlikable NPC that we can maybe lighten them up with high points in Speech or vice versa and corrupt their mind if we're playing as an evil jerk.

Maybe it's based on what gender you pick or chosen at random if not forced male?

I don't think they specified, but something tells me that it's male if you play as a male and female if you play as a female.

I'm not sure that's how it works, I'm just going to assume it's a boy and boy only.

That's the problem for me. Don't need reverse FO3 story. Or even worse... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GdoXUmeLXw

And that speech stuff to make him 'light or dark' is just too cliche for me

@Arsenic But why? I would love to see how the baby developed, heck he probably got out way before you're character did.

True, but it's a cliche I could live with. Especially if I could use them as a companion.

That's what I'm thinking. No way are you the 'sole survivor' of vault 111.

This I don't want Fo4 to be FO3 in reverse but something tell me that's going to be the case.

The kid is always assigned male. I think that's a better choice than making them the same gender as the main character. This way I only have one 'canon' child, no matter what gender character I play, rather than having yet another variable that I can't control.

My speculation is since Shaun is a name for both genders that if you pick a guy it's a boy if you pick a woman it's a girl. Then later your guy dies and you play as your kid.

The child is a son no matter what, and his name is Shaun. There is no picking genders for him.

Maybe it's just because I prefer the dark kind of stories.

Coping with not only the loss of your family but the loss of your entire world as well seems interesting

I tend to agree with this. The loss of your family would be the event that either makes you a mass murdering jerkwad, a do-gooder, or just another lost soul wandering the waste just trying to make it.

Pretty sure Shaun is a boy, no matter what, for Narrative reasons since it's implied by the "what you look like determines his appearance" thing they keep talking about.

Lol, too bad the cue card reading from the male voice actor didn't reflect any pain or remorse from the realization of losing his family and never seeing his child grow, when he was talking to Cogsworth or playing fetch with Dogmeat.

one theory is that the kid may have been used as the genetic material for androids like Harkness or a newer series

The only way this cliched and boring storyline that severely limits the kinds of characters you can roleplay will be worthwhile in the slightest to me is if we can press X to Shaun

But yeah I think the baby is a boy named Shaun no matter what.

I'm more concerned that they are actually spelling his name "Shaun" rather than "Sean".

A mini game where you shout "Shaun" over and over in rapid succession.
