How the heck do you know if it's 1H or 2H?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:13 am

I have saved up dozens of weapons from my travels, and I keep them all in a chest. It's bad enough that I can't sort them out according to value (to find enchanted ones), or by attack value (to find my nicest ones). In fact, I can't even sort them out according to whether they are weapons or apparel or what else. Chest inventory management is deplorable. It's not even alphabetical, it's just a huge unorganized stack of words! It makes me want to accuse someone of something, useless as that might be.

All that aside, I'm tired of pulling out Swords that look to be two handers to me, or axes that look like one-handers, only to find the opposite when I give them to my follower. Can't we just get a simple tag that says 1h or 2h somewhere, similar to the little mark for "Stolen?"

Currently, the only way to know is to pull the thing out of the chest and equip it, and then look to see. Apart from the dozens of other useful things that this GUI does not provide for the user, this is one that I bump into often and it's starting to frustrate me.

I think that you are probably one of the only people to have this problem. It's fairly obvious for almost every weapon except for an occasional rare or unique weapon which I figure out right away by looking at it's damage or equipped it.

Never said anywhere, but the rule of thumb I've found is that all the one-handed weapons are pictured in vertical position in the inventory, while all the two-handed ones are in a diagonal position.

Easiest way would be to look at the weight.

One is big, the other is small. Pretty simple.

General rule ive been going by is if in the picture they are on a slant e.g \ they are 2H , if vertical | then theyre 1H. maybe exceptions but seems to be the case so far.
I agree thought item management isnt the best. Sure i saw a UI mod somewhere that (does not sort) list eveything with weight, damage and price with out having to highlight everyone to get the info, could make life a little easier.

ONE-HANDED: Swords, war axes and maces

TWO-HANDED: Greatswords, battleaxes and warhammers

Or did I misunderstand the question?

Warhammer, Battleaxe, and Greatsword Claymore = Two Handed

Unless it's a unique weapon, in which case you have to actually equip it to find out.

Also I believe there is a little triangle icon next to the item that indicates if it is the best damage or armor value for each slot currently in your inventory

It is labeled... As above, different weapons have different names depending on their size.

The clue is in the name, If it's a great-sword, battle axe or war hammer its 2 handed.
If its a war axe, mace or just a 'sword' its 1 handed.

its fairly simple and obvious, unless your absolutely new to TES you should have some idea of equipment tiers as well.
here they are anyway, lowest to highest

Weapons: Iron, Steel, Orcish, Dwarven, Elven, Glass, Ebony, Daedric.

Armor (light): Fur/Hide armours, Leather, Imperial, Elven, Scaled, Glass, Dragon scale.

Armor (heavy): Iron, Steel, Dwarven, Plated steel, Orcish, Ebony, Dragonplate, Daedric.

Daggers aren't 1-handed. They're daggers. They don't benifit from the 1-handed tree.

True, but they're one-handed in the literal sense that it only takes one hand to wield them.

They benefit from any one-handed perk that does not mention a specific weapon, as daggers are still classed as one-handed weapons.

But the perks that directly benefit daggers are in the sneak tree, since they're considered the stealth weapon.

Uh, cmon really?

If it's ONE HANDED the weapon is VERTICAL in the picture

if it's TWO HANDED the weapon is ON AN ANGLE in the picture of it to the right.

Um.
1h Swords are called Swords. 1h Maces are called Maces. 1h Axes are called..Axes.

2h Swords are called Greatswords. 2h Maces are called Warhammers. 2h Axes are called..Battleaxes. It's really not a difficult process.

The name kinda define it's 1h or 2h, but it would be much easier and friendly by labeling it in game, that I agree.
