How the hell are they gonna pull off fights with dragons?

It would be cool if they had lots of ways to kill dragons suited towards your character type. For instance ..

For warriors (heavy armour, sword and shield/ 2h weapon) they should be able to deflect the fire with a special resistant shield, stun the dragon and create an opening allowing him to finish the dragon by thrusting his sword into the dragons abdomen.

For mages and magic users they should have a arsenal of spells at their disposal to take dragons down in slot of ways depending on what school of magic they specialise in. Destruction mages should be able to go on an all out offensive an use offense as a good defence e.g. stopping the fire of a dragon by shooting back with a frost spell and fighting it with lightning. An illusion Mage could go invisible and suprise it with trickery and a conjuration Mage could use summons to distract it and use others to overwhelm it.

A stealth based character could sneak up on the dragon and be able to identify it's weak spot and go for it sneakily. Or jump on it's back and climb towards it's head shadow of the colossus style. A marksman based character can pepper it with arrows and poisons aiming for weak points like the eyes/ ankles etc.

I think none of this should be possible at the start of the game though. I think in the first 15-20 levels you should walk around a corner see and dragon and think "ohh ****" and run for your life being force to run into a dark mine shaft to escape the dragon. Killing dragons should be a feat hard to accomplish even for a dragonborn. The dragon shouts should be acquired later on in the game and should factor in greatly during dragon fights.

I guess the dragons will not be too hard to kill, more like a enemy tougher than the usual creatures you meet. It will still demand gamerskills.

Don't Dragon Shouts give you an edge when fighting dragons?

Well, naturally, dragons can use Dragon Shouts too...

Well, dragons can't fly forever. They must rest some time I guess...

The classical way is to look for them at their lairs and slaugher them.

What I'm concerned with is more on the lines; how in the Nine are we to stop an army of dragons that will surely be vary from size, intelligence and power.

But probably if they don't do somelike like God of War finishing moves or along these lines, then it'll be explained by either our mentor. Or maybe studying dragon movements, their activites and being like an actual hunter.

Or unexplained main character power.

My guess is that a dragon will be the equivilant of a deathclaw in fallout...only with wings and can breath fire or another element. That alone is a scary thought.

To kill them though, I'd imaging you'd have to either find a way to get them down to you via arrows or magic, or wait for it to come down to you. And once it was down you'd have to aim for some weak points on it in order to deal damage. This in itself is a great point for having localized damage on foes. And that would be once you were higher up in levels. Early on if you saw a dragon you'd have to pic up your tail, put it between your legs, and run like...well, like there was a very hungery dragon behind you.

Phase 1:
Summon lich, turn invisible, walk to the side, take a seat, pull out my magical restore/vodka, and enjoy the show. Repeat until dragon is weak.
Phase 2:
Electrocute dragon with your lighting, conjure sword, stand over dragon.
Phase 3:
Wait for townspeople to wander out of their homes. They will proclaim you king. You may now have your way with the towns finest maidens.

I think the answer is very simple and straightforward. Battles with dragons will be the same as battles with cliff racers in MW.

I just can't see Bethesda having QTE's in Skyrim. Since QTEs less about your character's skill level, but your skill to press a button in a certain amount of time. Which seems just wrong in a game like Skyrim.

I'm assuming the dragon will make a few passes at you breathing fire down until it eventually gets fed up with trying to bomb you and lands to bite you in half. At that point you can bring out your weapons and proceed to hack and slash your way through it. It's the Elder Scrolls though I'm sure there are a number of way to approach fighting a dragon based on your play style.

Hanging onto the dragon's wing and stabbing that criminal scum in the throat.

I LOL'd.

I really hope we get to fight the dragons without pressing the key/button that's being shown or something similarly stupid.

Demon Souls did have some dragon fights, but... those involved using massively huge swords, and I don't see that happening in TES. But, whatever Bethesda is doing, it seems like it will blow our minds.

The dragon fights in emons souls resulted in the dragon flighying at the same route over and over again breathing fire at the same time. It was a matter of picking the pattern and shooting at it every time it went past. It was tedious at best. We need levitation. However most dragon fights in games end up with teh dragon landing and attacking of the ground, even on open sky. It shoudl just sit on you and game over.

I bet there will only be 1 dragon fight as part of the main quest and you will have an army to support you for it.

I believe it was stated in the GI article that there will be lots of dragons.

Oh your worried about the game crashing? I'd be more worried that the fight with the dragons wouldn't be believable. I think it will take finesse and I'll tell you this when i meet my first dragon in game i had better die several times trying to figure out how to kill it or I won't be impressed.

The story behind the dragon fights is that dragons get their immense power from their ancient dragon language which empowers them. Dovahkiin have the ability to use their language of power on an equal level to them. This is why you can fight a dragon and the only reason. I think they did an amazing job of making a good reason that is believable as to why you can fight dragons 1v1. How they implement the way the fighting looks is still a mystery but I have faith in Bethesda.

Well you cant really say that because your character Dragonborn is a Dragon hunter according to Wikipedia so I wouldn't be surprised if your character could take it down not with ease but with little challenge compared to say a dozen city guards

I believe it was stated in the GI article that there will be lots of dragons.

Yes GI did say that Dragons will freely roam around although I do think the last boss will be a Dragon(Maybe Akatosh because the Nords see him as a Harbinger of the Apocalypse) I think they also mentioned that the Dragons are randomly set to attack towns which you will have to protect. I am not so sure about agreeing with that one because it seems kind of unfair for a town to be attacked while I am across the map, I really don't want to have to fast travel(I hate fast traveling but if that is what it takes to save a town)to the town and kill the dragon but at the cost of having to walk back to the area I was at before. The only way to fix my little complaint(Not that it needs to be fixed its pretty cool for that to happen)is that the dragons only attack nearby towns and the reasoning behind that is because they can sense your presence near the town and they want to kill you and if they did the the Dragons should also be able to land right in front of you and engage in battle.

Also just for kicks you must defeat one of the dragons in a game of checkers.
That would be a hilarious random encounter. If you win he leaves if he wins you have to fight him.

It doesn't have to be checkers, this dragon can be a gambler of sorts and you call for a coin flip or a dice roll.

Well, perhaps the dovahkiin will have divine help, a huge army or strong companions that help you bring the dragon down... or all of this, aside from dragon shouts.
