1) you fake a lunge and dodge as the dragon swoops down upon you and in a flash jump and turn with a downward slash, knocking the dragon to the ground. you continue to pummel the dragon and hope it dies or is wounded seriously enough to not be able to fly away

2) you run from it, see some rocks that you jump on and as the dragon flies past you trying to change it's course, you jump on top of it and start bopping it on the head with your 2H blunt weapon

3) you lay a dragon trap and hope it's in the game or you....ummmm won't be able to lay a dragon trap

4) you cast a burden spell and go to town on it from there

5) you are a good marksman and take it down with arrows

6) you levitate upwards and battle it with sword and/or sorcery

7) you summon a dragon of your own or some other creature and while it has the dragon's aggro you whip it into submission

8) you raise your shield and block it's attack, and either reflect the damage back to the dragon or do a shield bash to stun it and then go at it

Well they made a point of saying "Lesser" Dragons. To me this means small.

First http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc0fDGVQtJk&feature=related song plays, then a message pops up "call in coming press select" will pop up, then Campbell will answer and say "Snake in order to be able to kill the dragon you must find the Stinger missile located in Warehouse B floor 2" the message will then end. Then you go to Warehouse B floor 2 get the missile launcher and finally kill the dragon.

Ranged weapons and sneak.
Hopefully gunpowder will be invented.

Or heavy crossbows... with mayor enchantments... and nasty looking anti-draconic bolts. Aww... I wish! :)

Also just for kicks you must defeat one of the dragons in a game of checkers.
That would be a hilarious random encounter. If you win he leaves if he wins you have to fight him.

It doesn't have to be checkers, this dragon can be a gambler of sorts and you call for a coin flip or a dice roll.

I do enjoy a tense game of checkers.

But honestly, I'm excited to see how it pans out. Dragons are obviously an important part of the game, so making dragon battles work has probably been a priority for the devs.

I think they'll just land if you survive long enough, and plus you'll probably have Dragon Shouts. And I think the dragon would defenitly land in the first place. And with the fnishing moves, there'll probably be open moments for to to kill them.

I'm wondering now... how do we fight Alduin? Does a mortal character even have a chance? Or will the Dovahkiin be immune against the effects of time and aging... literal the powers of Alduin?

It seems to me like dragon combat would be difficult, which is why i hope it isnt turned into some stupid minigame.

In the magazine article, it says the player can "engage dragons on a different level". I dont know if that means by using the voice to control it or make it come to the ground to fight

....or if it means we will be transported to an oblivion-like realm where we have to kill a bunch of minions and fight our way to the dragon's central lair and steal the dragon heart which will randomly kill the dragon in real life or something [censored] like that..... ...

You guys know thats exactly what it's gonna be... I'm sort of afraid of this.

Suplex and magic hair.

And thus, the dragon was slain after twenty consecutive suplexes by Gogeta.

Quicktime events, obviously.

NOOOOO!!!! I really hope that they don't use that.
I mean, yeah, it looks cool, but when I see it in a game it just screams "we wanted you to be able to do that, but we were too lazy to think of a system that allows you to do it yourself, so instead we'll give you this annoying cinematic that you have to press a few buttons to view the whole of it"

seriously, they were cool back then, but it got boring quite fast

People keep saying "you'll use the dragon shouts" but you get them from killing the dragons so they won't be very helpful on the first few.

I dream of dragons...

If I got my way dragons wouldn't be fight enemies unless you were an idiot. If I had my way, they should have thousands of health, fatigue, and mana points. They should have spells that do hundreds of points of damage in a single hit and be able to summon multiple xiviali at once. That'd mean you'd have to be either a REALLY good fighter or spell-caster, or take the realistic approach and be diplomatic.

Somewhere in the various sets of scans there is one set containing the image of, probably, the PC looking across a landscape. In the middle distance there is a large tower or small castle, the striking feature of this building is a large circular platform jutting out about half way up one of the walls...

The image does look more like concept art than screen shot and the fact I've only seen it in one set of scans makes me question its validity, but it would fit in with your minion/dragon heart idea.

Most likely the dragon will land, if we're lucky any melee attacks from it will actually force the player into ragdoll and toss them about, meaning some sort of dodge system where you have to avoid its strikes while working your way into its defenses to hit back.

I hope that the fights are real fights and not some game destroying puzzle or button sequence game.

Ideally dragons are tough tough monsters, not Dagon tough but much tougher than Umaril the Unfeathered.

My dream, my literal dream, would be to buy a stack of cheap bows and give them to every member of a city so they can help me when the dragon attacks!

I wish it was something like Shadow of the Colossus but I can't see that working with the engine, I hope it's not just hacking away at it like any other enemy. I'm not opposed to quick time events either, as longs as it's done well.

We are going to play checkers, whoever loses, off with their head. If they don't know how to play, either he or dragon or both die.

I hope it's better than Biowares dragon fights.
