How the hell do I install OOO/

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:54 pm

Hello all,
I'm coming back to oblivion after a long break. Reinstalling everything... I'm trying to install OOO but having no luck. There's like 300 versions 1.34F vs. 1.3 vs 1.33 etc... Instructions are unclear.

I currently don't have any version installed. Completely clean slate.

What do I need?

Any help is appreciated!

Yeah, I don't know if it's the way the guy writes or I'm just a dunder head but it doesn't make any sense to me.

This reads like a freaking algebra word problem:

There are four different downloads available: the Upgrade package is available as a 68Mb OMOD-ready archive or a 78Mb standalone EXE installer, and the Complete package is available as a 403Mb OMOD-ready archive or a 408Mb standalone EXE installer.

Now there's also a 1.33 Patch that just includes the updated plugins. You must already have a complete install of 1.32.Final before adding the 1.33 patch!

* 1.33 Complete and Patch (OMOD-ready or standalone EXE) from PlanetElderScrolls
* 1.33 Complete OMOD-Ready from FileFront (file "purged" by FileFront)
* 1.33 Complete Standalone EXE from FileFront (file "purged" by FileFront)
* 1.33 Patch and 1.32.Final Upgrade from TESNexus

Download either the Complete or Upgrade version. Both include OMOD conversion data with an install script that guides you through the install process and option choices. This is the recommended install method, but there's also a standalone installer EXE available if you don't use OBMM.

Upgrade version requires prior install of OOO 1.3 Base. You've been warned!

It's simple: You first install the 1.33 base pack and then install the 1.34 b5 patch on top of that. The base pack can be downloaded either as an OMOD or self-installer, but as the OMOD is a smaller file, I recommend downloading that if you are somewhat familiar with OBMM. The install script is very good, and anything that is unclear is explained in great detail in the readme. The 1.34b5 patch is just files that need to overwrite the ones from the 1.33 base pack, so there's no complexity involved in installing that. Anything that concerns version 1.32 is irrelevant for new installations of OOO; it only matter if you're upgrading from 1.32, which has been outdated for quite some time.

Ah now I see what the problem is... Vista is moving OOO files to a "virtual location" for some reason so the files don't appear when I look at my Oblivion/data folder or open mod manager.

WTF!!!!

Arrghhhh.

Before you start it would be advisable to look http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=449239 and scroll to Mods on Windows Vista.

AH! Now that makes sense. Thanks! Silly me thinking I could just do what I wanted with my own machine. Once again I thank microsoft for saving me from myself... GRRRRR

Thanks for the info, will reinstall and try again.

Sigh!

I think the general wisdom when installing OB under Vista is to install it into another than the default /Program/... folder because of the Vista security features and administrator rights and stuff.

I would also recommend to DL the OOO OMOD ready version, not the .exe version. I've installed my OOO as OMOD (you need to create that first from within OBMM. It takes a good while, just let it run :) ) Good luck!
