How the L-TAG could be useful outside of Crash Site

Post » Fri Jun 19, 2009 7:52 pm

Sure, the L-TAG is useful against mostly stationary, unarmored targets, but it's weak against anyone who's mobile. Guess what? Mobile players are a pretty hefty sum of the players in Crysis 2. That means that the L-TAG is a very situational (bad) weapon.

Two things must be done to implement it on a broader scale (make it useful).

First: Grenades should explode upon impact after a certain distance, with a higher velocity to provide greater accuracy. Most of the time, the grenades will bounce out of the kill radius. A player's aim should have more to do with the kills than luck of the shot, otherwise there's really no point in aiming down the sights.

Second: it needs to not have a bright trail that says: "I came from here, shoot this guy!"

OR

The Alternative
Proximity airburst detonation.

OR
The alternate alternative
Remote Detionation as a secondary fire mode.
-Detonation would be done by pressing the fire button again, or right mouse.

Also: None of the non-bullet weapons award assists. That's right: not the K-Volt, X-43 Mike, JAW, Grenade Launcher, or L-TAG award assists. Ever.

Disclaimer: I have reached 100 kills with the L-TAG, I know how it behaves, don't tell me that it shouldn't be changed, because it's apparent that it's almost useless outside of crash site.

I agree to a certain extent, whilst it needs a buff it shouldn't become the nade launcher from Cod which is what you seem to want.

It works with Loadout pro fairly well...

Naw, but it shouldn't be the chuck-a-rock-launcher. Man, you can fire 4 nades near someone and they won't go down. If the blast radius were rather small, but with impact-detonation, it'd be better for direct engagements. Should still be a kill for a direct hit (thing is harder to use than any other weapon without a height advantage), but a higher velocity in the very least would be good. Pepper an area with a couple of them and you'll get people to move.

I think it's pretty effective, in the level with the building where the 2nd floor is slightly caved in, (Town hall I think) there was a guy sniping there, so I shot 1 L-tag nade, bounced off the caved in wall and blew up in his face. Plenty of campers in the game, L-tag seems like it would work well against them.
Also, what's more intimidating than a steady stream of explosive sounds moving in your direction xD

As a side note, all the info about the L-tag says it gives the operator control over how/when the nade explodes. How the F#$% do you change that? What button do you press?

That's still a mystery even to me. Even in campaign it has no remote-detonation feature.

I have found, dunno if this means something, you can change the L-Tag so that the top aiming thing is put down, by (on the PC) pressing 1 to change to your sidearm, then pressing 1 to change back, then 1 quickly again. I dunno what the aiming thing put down does, but maybe it changes something?

It just doesn't play the animation when that happens.

You made a mistake: Grenades do award assists, it's called a "tag-team assist" and I've gotten it several times. Other than that, I completely support your point.

L-Tag should have a self detonation feature IMO. You can right click to detonate the grenade and if you don't then it'll blow up under the regular conditions.

First post fixed.

I'll add remote detonation to the options.

wait, it's useful in crash site?

i've played with the L-tag. haven't got 100 kills yet.

quite simply, it svcks. in fact, one round i was named a noob for using this thing. kd ? 4-4. so next round, i took my scarab outfit and kicked the crap out of that guy with a 16/4 KD using the scarab only.

the L-tag is weak for a dozen reasons:

-the WAY too heavy grenade
-which drops down WAY too fast
-which is WAY too glowy. use of the Ltag makes you an instant prime target AND easy kill
-the Ltag's minimum range is WAY too big. at common ranges, people just jump/run/slide into the safety zone and proceed to kick your ass.

it's grenades do explode on impact, but only on center mass or head or so. when near the legs, they almost never do. furthermore, they have a **** proximity detonation, which means more often than not, the nades completely miss the target even if they're 10cm away.

seriously, a normal grenade is more effective than an L-tag. and FAR more subtle.

it's not skill either. it simply doesn't have any combat capacity, not even as a support weapon.

I've only used an L-Tag to take down a Pinger, and that was only because it was readily available and the Pinger was trapped in a wall.
