how trustworthy are the ping numbers in server list?

For me, they never go below 109.

all low ping servers for me are displayed as having 109 usually.

If I had to give it a score between 0 and 10, I'd say 1.
It's never what it says it is. Pick a 109 server as someone else mentioned and hope it's close. Use the name to judge if you need to.

Honestly the ping won't be the problem though. It'll be the server itself. Avoid NFO servers entirely unless they're live-managed by players.

I don't trust the server browser at all. All servers with 1000 ping in the browser end up having between 40-100 ping ingame.

and about this thread: NO, you can't trust ping that showed in the game browser, you need to connect to server to see real one, if it is good, you better mark it as FAVORITE
