How do I use C4? : Fallout: New Vegas

I left a huge pile of C4 mines to wipe out some enemies but they just seemed to run right over them and nothing happened. Is there something I need to do other than place them on the ground? if I go to pick them up I have to disarm them first so I assume they are armed and ready to go.

You need to buy a detonator aswell the C4.

They are activated only with a detonator. You need the detonator and then you can lay them down, move to a different and safe area and then detonate.

Where can you find a detonator? I have looked myself and was never able to find it... I know I could look at the wiki but I'm lazy today

They're usually sold at the same time or if they are found in bulk (4 or 5) then a detonator should be near.

Mojave outpost is a good place to start I think to buy them.

There's a detonator along with C4 in the NCR troop encampment outside Nelson.

Not entirely true. You can shoot the C-4 with just about any gun and it will blow up.

I found a detonator in Vault 34, I think. But sort of a pita to get to it iirc.

Really? because I've tried that and it didn't work. You may be thinking of bottlecap mines.

At the 118 outpost there is a NCR trader who sells 12 C4 and 4 detonaters.

Really? because I've tried that and it didn't work. You may be thinking of bottlecap mines.

Thank you....I did a test with C4 and at first with the Gobi it wouldn't work but I'm a terrible shot so I kept going and it works. No detonator needed. I tested with detonator and without and the explosion seems to be comparable. I've only ever found C4 with a detonator so it's good to know I can use it without one.

and for extra fun, lay them everywhere around the bunks in camp golf when everyone is sleeping, then walk out into the main room and hit the detonator. The explosion can actually blow the into the ceiling, they just hang there half-imbeded.

First time I used C4 was against the legendary cazador, it jumped me and I was like "crap get the most powerful stuff out!!". C4, excellente. *runs back, drops C4*

But yeah, you need either a detonator or if you don't have one (some places they have C4 lying around but no detonator) try putting an explosive mine next to it, frag'll do.
