How was Miraak immortal?

Post » Sat Mar 08, 2014 10:01 am

How was it possible for him to live 4000+ years? Was he no longer living? like did he become some sort of spirit or entity? Was living in Hermaeus Mora's realm extending his life? Like his youth was frozen in time?

Spoiler
I noticed when he was impaled he turned into ashes and his skeleton was left, as in his flesh never existed. Which is weird because when he stabbed the older guy he just dropped like a sack of potatoes and didn't disintegrate.
How was he able to live for that long? would he be considered a mortal?

He turns to ashes because he has a Dragon soul - as all Dragonborns do - that you absorbed, as a Dragonborn yourself.

He's probably even older than that. Being in a Daedric realm that belongs to a Prince that can move through time at will, can do that. Hermaeus Mora pretty much made him immune to time.

It's also possible that being dragonborn extended his life. Sure, most dragonborn have lived normal lifespans, but most dragonborn didn't have dragons to kill. Maybe, absorbing dragon souls extends life. But, the most likely explanation is that Hermaeus Mora can do whatever he wants in his realm and when you have a dragonborn as a pet, you don't want it to die.

Time doesn't move in Apocrypha because Herma-Mora willed it to be so.
